3 Gun shoot C&DTSA Calgary

Fenceline, can you tell us how many rounds of each type we'd have to be able to carry? Thirty rifle rounds means a lot of mags if you can only stuff five into each... Same for pistol.

Not sure. Will look into it. Will try to remember what the round count was last year.

Edit...

My round count for the similar match last September was...

82 rounds pistol
70 rounds rifle
36 rounds shotgun

Limited class has a fixed round count with no follow up or make up shots. Unlimited has no fixed round count and follow up shots are permitted.

As always, I'd suggest bringing more ammo than not enough.

Calgary & District Target Shooters Association
Rules June 8th

Rules

Ammunition:
Rifle: No Tracers or anything that could start a fire.
Pistol: PLATED OR LEAD ONLY (We will be checking, if FMJ then you will not be allowed to shoot)
Shotgun: No Steel, Lead 7.5 or 8 Shot Only

Classes:
Limited Class (LC) – All rifles will be limited to a mag of 5 rounds per magazine. (No 10 round AR mags allowed). All pistols will be limited to 6 rounds capacity to allow for revolvers. All shotguns to be limited to 5 rounds. FIXED ROUND COUNT means that you cannot pick up a missed shot. Every missed shot will equal a time penalty.

Unlimited Class (UC) – No magazine restrictions to the extent of the law. (10 round AR mags are NOT allowed at this time). Anyone caught with a non-legal magazine will be ejected from the match. There will be no fixed round count for this class meaning you CAN PICK UP A MISSED SHOT.

Score:
Limited Class (LC) – Shooting targets out of order will result in a PROCEDURE (P) penalty which add 5 seconds on to your finished time. You can only get one (P) per stage. Every missed target will add 5 seconds to your time.

Unlimited Class (UC) – Will NOT be subject to a PROCEDURE penalty because of their ability to pick up a missed target. Will still ask that you shoot in the order that the course of fire calls out for you. (Remember this is for fun) Every missed target will add 5 seconds to your time.

Depending on feedback from the participants of the matches, class type and scoring is subject to change. Please check the rules for an update before each match.

I'm just a member, not involved in the make up of the event at all. While the rules are restrictive, the club is open to feedback. This is a new event for the club, and this will be the second time it has been run here. I would encourage all to attend, and provide feedback to make this better.

Cdtsa is in the process of constructing a new range south of Calgary. Support for this kind of event could help in developing 3 gun as a regular occurrence.

The new cdtsa range will feature...
- 100, 300 and 500 meter rifle range
- dedicated rimfire range
- dedicated pistol range
- 2 pistol / light rifle combination bays
- a jungle walk range
- dedicated shotgun range

Camping options are being explored on a neighboring property. Cdtsa owns the property for the range. It is well suited to being a long term, multi style shooting location.

Support and advice could go a long way to making things awesome.

Last year everything was limited Vickers count or Virginia Count if you are familiar with IDPA/IPSC (which is to say no make up shots and the sequence of shooting each string or stage is laid out for the shooter for those that are not familiar with the terms). This makes it tough on new shooters as there was a 5 second penalty for mikes.
There was no 6 round rule for levelling the playing field for revolvers, but rifle and shotguns were both limited to 5 rounds.

I'm personally of the opinion that dictating limited vickers should be done on the individual stages, and then never mixed within a stage to prevent mix-ups and simplify the stage as much as possible.

However, this would be a good reason to go. Hmmm. We will see where we are next week this time.

I shot it. There was a 6 round limit for pistols and the RO cited that restriction was for revolvers to be competitive with the pistols, and so on for restrictions on manual shotguns and prohibitions on using pistol mags for ARs. The revolver reference is a direct quote.

Well their rules are different than what I would use, on the positive side this is one more club trying to put together a 3 gun event and isn't trying to discourage holsters or rapid fire. No FMJ pistol ammo knocks me out although I am still trying to find some different ammo. Might even drive out just to check out the range.

Might I suggest in future splitting the match into divisions, revolver and pistol so the pistols can go with 10 rd mags.

I shot it. There was a 6 round limit for pistols....

Crap. Well, this isn't the first time my memory has let me down :HR::dancingbanana: -honestly, I don't remember that f:P:

With respect to the plated or lead only bullets on steel, my understanding is this in direct relation to the proximity of the range to urban development - I know it doesn't make sense, and am familiar with reaction of FMJ on proper plates, but my understanding is this is what the range exec. Have arranged with the AB. CFO.
I can't imagine Milo being held to the same restrictions....

Forgive my ignorance (I'm not a 3 gun shooter...Yet) but even with the round restrictions in place to level the field for the revolver guys, wouldn't they still be at a disadvantage with regards to the time it takes to reload? Any points earned against a pistol shooter would be lost due to the longer time it takes to reload and therefor complete the stage? Wouldn't the pistol shooter win every time against a revolver shooter when all other things are equal?
