3 Gun shoot C&DTSA Calgary

Not sure but I believe we won't be restricted to 6 round count on the different stages. Sounds like pistols will have the advantage. Could be wrong though. I'd rather shoot revolver given a choice.

Only trouble is that I don't have enough 5 rnd only magazines for my AR (I use some 10 round LAR mags). I wonder if we can load those to 5 rounds and use them?

Can someone from the CDTSA Executive chime in on this?

Forgive my ignorance (I'm not a 3 gun shooter...Yet) but even with the round restrictions in place to level the field for the revolver guys, wouldn't they still be at a disadvantage with regards to the time it takes to reload? Any points earned against a pistol shooter would be lost due to the longer time it takes to reload and therefor complete the stage? Wouldn't the pistol shooter win every time against a revolver shooter when all other things are equal?

I've seen some pretty fast revolver reloading. But yes, all things being equal (which they never are), semiauto reloads tend to be faster.

I'm not an exec, but I don't think anyone will object to loading your LARs with 5 rounds.

Anyone know how the scores panned out on this shoot?
I know I screwed the pooch on a couple of stages, but would like to know how bad.lol.

- pistols limited to 6 rounds to make it fair for those wanting to compete with revolvers...

- manual action shotguns limited to 5 rounds in the mag to keep it fair for semi autos...

-rifles limited to 5 rounds. No pistol mags or beowulf mags to make it fair for those who own guns limited to 5, or who don't own those types of mags...

- pistol ammo must either be plated or lead. No FMJ etc.

Don't shoot the messanger. Just advising for those that may not read the rules before showing up and thus be surprised by these course parameters.

What ridiculous rules. I'll stick with our informal shoots at BTSA. Anything legal goes, and we even the magazine playing field by dictating a mag change between some sets of targets.

What ridiculous rules.

Meh, the majority of rules are there due to the ranges' proximity to the City. Shouldn't have any issues with refined three gunning specific rules for the new range.

Like kicking out members of a certain discipline kind of legal?
I would donate to the Liebral party before I supported anything to do with the BTSA/APRA....ymmv

That is politics before my joining and I know nothing of what transpired. The current 3-Gun matches are fully approved by the board and highly enjoyable.

You can justify your support of such an organization however you like.

Me, I'd rather shoot with a good group of people at matches that need work in ironing out the bugs than I would stellar matches with a corrupt group of back stabbing anti's.

Sunday 14 September there will be a 3 gun action match in Medicine Hat, 2 1/2 hour drive east of Calgary. There will be a Open class, a Stock class, a Rim fire class, a Novice class, a Female Class, and a Vintage Class (as issued & built prior to 1950). The match is designed to attract new shooters while still being competitive for those shooters who are experienced at 3 Gun. More to follow in a couple of weeks.

I shot a revolver. I think the 6 rounds in autos was only for the limited class. I shot with the autos anyway. I was just there for some fun and to turn money into smoke and noise.

Auggie D.

Couple of things here. Some of you seem to think there are too many rules, not enough classes, politics. I shot the match too and it was a hoot. Jordan put a lot of work into props etc and over all did a heck of a job. Lets face it, most guys just want to go out and shoot their guns and have a good time and don't care about winning the match. Sure there are a couple of serious guys out there but most aren't. Reason for non jacketed bullets is not plate damage but ricoshas. Didn't spell that right. But you get the picture. Seems most shooters have pistol auto loaders and not many own revolvers. Only one guy shot a revolver out of about 21 or so shooters. As for classes, well with only 21 shooters ,how many classes can you have? If you only own a rimfire, well I don't think you are ready for a 3 gun match. Its unfortunate now that many newish shooters don't reload ammo. Some loaded ammo is so cheap, its almost not worth reloading, especially with the costs of reloading componants these days. And most loaded ammo is jacketed. Have the same problem on our Thursday nite steel league. New shooters are having a tough time finding loaded lead ammo, so can't participate. Don't get all hung up on the supposed rules, just come on out and shoot and have some chuckles!

Since the issue of what is acceptable rifle ammunition has yet to be explained, I thought it would be a safe bet since I had to drive 3 hours one way to shoot the match, was possibly to shoot rimfire. With my Kimber .22 conversion kit (8 magazines) on my Colt Series 70 and my CMMG conversion kit (8 Black Dog magazines) in my Armalite M15A4.

Since I have a 3 hour drive to attend matches at Shepard, the guys that have run the Cowboy Action matches throughout the last 3-4 years have been nothing but helpful ensuring that I have enough information to bring exactly all the kit and ammunition required for the matches. So if you have a source for cast lead 5.56mm ammunition, I would be interested. The information on your website is limited in this category, which discourages shooters from travelling to your matches.
