HOWDY ; You lads need to see a cowboy with a winchester 97 and a shotgun belt . Pull three rounds at a time and fire .

You have my interest. I have thought about getting into cowboy action shooting for soome time. I believe this is the type of shotgun you are refering too.

Great article Slo!!
That really helps as I am in the market for a new shotgun and was holding the 590a1 the other day. I liked the feel... just need to shoot it now.

What about a Valtro?? Nice option using box mags instead of the tube for faster reloads and the barrel comes ported......
I had one of the 1st valto,s that hipwell got into canada.
Take it to the range set up a shotgun stage.
After 5rds i need to go prone.
Then i was like sh*t i cant get low enough ive got a 9ins mag on the bottom of my gun!!!
Then i have an issue that u cant top up the gun with ammo on the run or as you need it.
Its like the M1 eather a full clip/ mag or empty.... how very 1940,s
Then there was how well it was made, nice and light but the alum casting was ####*y and cheap.
As for the porting i was getting hot plastic from the wad spitting as me.
The only use i can see for it would be if you were in a chopper and you could load and unload by just takeing the mag out.

beretta 1201 fp; similar to m1 super 90 (is in open division:: both use same speedloaders:tecloader bsls 1510)
valtro's that i've seen have been problematic and would put you into open division

poor grammar last post sorry
if you wish to shoot open division with the beretta 1201 fp or m1super 90 use the tecloader i recommended
otherwise you would be in standard

I like my 590A1. The longer 20" barrel helps tighten the pattern over a really short gun. That makes it easier to knock down some of the tougher targets. The extra weight from the heavy barrel soaks up recoil allowing for a faster follow up shot. Mine still has the bayo lug.

As Quigley said - 5 rds jam.

The mags are difficult to insert under pressure. I watched a Valtro shooter take about 15 secs to do a mag change. Also, I saw a lot of short stroking, causing the fired shell not to eject and the bolt picking up the next round, inducing a double feed.

Nice shotgun, but over priced.

it seems 870's & 590's are the prefered choice.

I have a 1300 defender 18" barrel, 7 +1 rounds.
it's reliable, & the cost is so cheap. even after upgrading it w/ pistol grip stock (retracktable or not) side saddle holders . sights, etc.. you'll still pay less for the defender than those other options.

but, there all pretty good choices.

Here's my defender: http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d136/colt45gunner/MyToys2.jpg
