I have never shot a 3 gun match, but they look like fun so I thought I'd give it a go. I have an adequate rifle and pistol and I thought I'd use my Winchester SXP (the only shotgun I own). Trouble is.. I can't find a mag tube extension for the SXP in Canada. I have the camp/field combo version so I would probably want to use the 28" barrel for the threaded chokes (18" barrel is fixed cylinder). If I'm going to use a big ol' 28" barrel I'd like to get more than 5 2-3/4" shells in the tube to make the extra overall length more useful. Maybe I just need to buy a more suitable shotgun? So I come to you, CGN, for advice.

1) Is there a big ol' mag tube extension in Canada for the Winchester SXP that I haven't been able to find?
2) If I shop for a new shotgun it would be specifically for 3 gun, but I don't want to spend M2 kind of money on a new sport I'm not sure I'll do very often. I'm also a lefty so ambi friendly options are great.
-opinions on the Canuck Operator? Not ideal but if it's reliable and the mag tube is set up for 5.9 of 3" and ghost loadable, seems like a decent value. Is there a traditional/field type stock available that fits on them?
-I stumbled on the Canuck Victor but can't find any reviews on them. Anyone have opinions or experience on them?
-I could go with a different pump that I can find a tube extension for (or one that comes with a big ol' tube). Any suggestions?
-Other ideas?

For magazine extensions, contact Tacord.

For purpose build 3 gun shotgun, contact Tacord...but you will be spending "M2 money"

First you need to figure out what division you want to play in and then find equipment for that division.
before buying anything, I'd suggest going to a few matches in your area and talking to people.

Everyone wants to talk about their gear, you will get no shortage of opinions...

For tube extension tac ord will be able to set you up with likely a Nordic components extension.
For a new gun I would strongly suggest going to a match or 2 to get the feel of what you want. You will hear this lots when it comes to new 3g gear. We all did the same thing. We bought what we thought we wanted then shot a match or 2. After 2 matches we sold it all for what we realized was actually needed.
To wrap your head around prices though. The top semi's are m2 or versamax followed my the stoeger m3500 if you want to stick to a pump my top choice (and what I shoot) is the benelli supernova the sxp or 870 both work great but lack the ability to open the loading port when compared to the supernova.
If you want to get into open division the typhoon mag feds are the dominating shotgun

I’d just stick with what you’ve got for your first few matches....a few extra rounds in the shotgun is not going to make any difference for you at this stage. Shoot a few matches, see what other people are using, see if you enjoy 3gun enough to want to invest more $ and time into it. Don’t waste your money upgrading or modifying anything yet.

You guys rock. Tac Ord has the Nordic components tube extensions that I couldn't find anywhere. I didn't see them on the website, but I sent an email to ask after your suggestions. I'll be using the SXP I already have!

The advice to not spend a bunch of money until I try it out is good. I live pretty remotely so it's going to cost quite a bit to travel to a match... A couple/few hundred extra to feel prepared is worthwhile after over 1k for travel (to me anyway); it'd be different if I had local matches to check out.

Well here's the 3gun shotgun I came up with. Winchester SXP with a 26" barrel, holds 11+1 of 2-3/4". It's one of the models that came with the slightly longer tube (holds 6 from the factory), and a +5 Nordic Comp extension. I got the file set out and opened up the loading port a bit too. I didn't spend too much time polishing it in case I want to go a bit further later. there's a big difference in ease of loading though. I just tested loading 2 and am able to sort of do it; plus all the edges are nice and smooth (it used to be kind of sharp. not cut myself on it sharp, but uncomfortable). I'll need to practice that load 2 method before I can do it quickly and under any kind of stress. quad loads... I dunno about those. Even holding 4 shells in my hand is tough without stuffing them into a shotgun...

That thing looks awesome! Another advantage of a long ass extension tube is that you can dump it in a dump box hard without worrying about smacking the barrel and potentially damaging if. Get good at loading quick and you'll do fine with the pump.

I'd definitely get comfortable with loading doubles before trying quads. You're on the right track though.

What matches are you looking to attend given your location? Just curious.
I have a brother in Campbell River, so I'd like to combine a visit with him and a trip for a match every once in a while. As far as I know Edmonton is the closest to me so perhaps there as well. Given my location I'll never be able to attend matches super regularly.

Yeah.. I read that about the extension tube when I was researching and it was the motivation for picking that length. The 11 round capacity kind of drives me crazy, but I'll try not to think about it too much. Rules I found for the matches in Campbell River say you can start with 9 in the gun (8+1), so I have room for 3 more off the start which is not quite enough for a quad load, but leaves unused space after loading 2. It was a nice match for the barrel length though and I thought a tube that held 12 would be a bit long (seems like competitive guys run 24" barrels so I'm a bit long already). And a tube that held 10 would be a bit shorter than the barrel and leave the barrel/chokes/sight more open to damage. So a weird capacity is what I'm left with and I'll try to keep the OCD under control.
