Currently I am using a pump shotgun for 3 gun matches but I am thinking about a semi and I have spotted two that I am thinking about and I would like to hear from anyone that has had any experience with either or both.
The first one is the Mossberg 940 JM Pro, I have seen a number of YouTube video's and it looks like a good shotgun but I have also seen a couple of video's that talk about some problems (feeding, front sight and spring binding in mage tube).
The second one is the Federation Firearms SA-4 which I believe is a Turkish clone of the Benelli M4 but at a much lower price, I have not seen any reviews of this one but I have seen one on the Canuck Elite Operator which I believe is the same or very close to being the same as the Federation Firearms SA-4 and it looks not too bad either.
Some websites list them a 5 round and some as 4 + 1, I know that 4 + 1 is 5 total but just would like to know how many will fit in the actual magazine tube.
Any info would be appreciated.

I have run one of the m4 clones for a match. It functioned fine but the pistol grip gets in the way of reloading the magazine tube in a fast manner. This is something that becomes a problem if the course of fire runs past the the 5 plus 1 the magazine tube holds. I would also go for the 940 JM pro as it comes with a lot of features already done.

I’ve watched a few JM940 guys get really frustrated in matches…There seem to be some reliability issues with the gun.

Turkish guns are hit and miss…some really good and well built. If I was in the market for a Turkish gun, I’d look at the Stoeger M3K…for under a grand and all it needs is a magazine extension tube and a match saver…it already has oversized charging handle and bolt release and an opened up feed port. I used one for 4 years pretty successfully. Never had a malfunction that wasn’t operator error after several thousand rounds downrange. Only sold it after I got my Benelli M2 Speed.

Or save up and buy once/cry once and look at the Beretta 1301…probably the fastest cycling shotgun on the market currently and super reliable.

Or stick with a pump and for about the same price as the JM 940 find a Benelli Nova Speed…they were specifically built for IPSC and as a result have all the tricks needed for a slicked up 3 Gun shotgun.

Obviously the above is just my opinion…best bet is to see if you can try a few different guns. People at your range or others at the matches you attend will probably be happy to let you try their guns…And maybe you’ll find a better option that you didn’t even think of.

Sherlock Gnomes and Innavedaw thanks for the info, I am in no rush to get one yet as it will be next spring before I get get a chance to do a 3 gun event so lots of time to do research and look at different options.

A friend of mine runs the Beretta 1301 Competition in 3 gun, I have the 1301 Tactical and cant say anything bad about it! Easy to feed, oversized controls, fastest cyclic rate in todays modern semi's, ultra reliable, very little recoil, and doesn't break the bank! Add a tube extension and SEND IT!

The two most popular 3 gun shotguns are the Benelli M2 and Remington Versa Max. That is because of reliability. Unfortunately they are not ready to go right out of the box. Beretta 1301 is definately climbing in popularity. 940 JM Pro is a cheap starting alternative but frustrating when it doesn't run right. Maybe if your budget is a bit lower look for a used version of the first two brands I mentioned.

Thanks everyone for the info.
After looking at the Stoeger M3K reviews on YouTube and a few other reviews I found one in stock at SFRC and with the sale they were having I decided to purchase it now so hopefully I will have it in the next while.
Next will be to find a magazine extension for it. Will the 3 extension tube be the one that will come to the end of barrel?

Now that you have the M3K, call Stoeger Canada and purchase yourself a Benelli M2 extractor and spring. Cheap, relatively easy to replace and a must have upgrade. The stock M3K extractor is prone to breaking after a few hundred rounds (many of these let go at our 3gun club over the years).

The other thing you'll want is a Match Saver (single shell holder for in front of the chamber). I forget what extension is included.. maybe someone else can chime in.

You will need these:
https://tacord.com/product/nordic-mxt-extension-nuts/

https://tacord.com/product/nordic-mxt-shotgun-magazine-extension-tube-kit-12ga/ (Get Casey to install the proper plug)

https://tacord.com/product/tactical-ordnance-barrel-clamp-gasket/

https://tacord.com/product/matchsaverz-shotshell-holder/

Now you are all hotrodded for 3 gun…

In order to determine which ext tube you want if you are looking to line up with the end of the barrel, Nordic Components has a sizing guide…

Spuhalsky thanks I checked out the Stoeger Canada website and the Benelli M2 extractor is currently out of stock but I will keep an eye on it to come back in stock.
Innavedaw thanks for the links, a friend has a nordic extension on his shotgun and told me about them.
I did spot that S&J Hardware makes an extension kit as well, does anyone have experience with them?
I am going to wait until I have the shotgun in hand before I get any of the upgrades.

1301 comp is probably the best out of the box option. The enlarged loading and ejection ports, short LOP stock and oversized controls are great.

I'm in a similar boat as you. I did the 940 and hope I don't run into the problems mentioned. I was almost set on a 1301 comp pro but the blue color on a 2.5k shotty made me want to puke. The S&J mag tubes are good. They have a sling loop you can use or not use. The springs come super long and you may need to clip them yourself and figure out the 5.9 rounds yourself. They come with a good follower you can use or not use. The tube themselves are heavy duty. The 930/940 ones are solid 1 piece.
