3 Gun Tips and Tricks

Really? RCSD and Al Flaherty's has them in stock from my quick checking. If not, I would be willing to sell mine for $1200 :)[/QUOTE]

Your google fu is stronger than mine. I checked Al Flahery's and cannot find any 24" stoeger M3000 / M3K barrels for sale.
They do have the M3000 and M3K but no barrels listed that I could see.

Who is RCSD?

Sorry, if only talking about barrels, I am wrong. They do have the actual shotguns but not barrels. "RDSC" is a store in Red deer who has stuff in stock usually.

No problem. Yeah, I am talking barrels at this time. But the price on the M3K is decent though.....

I got one a few months ago. It's awesome. My 1st 3gun is this weekend so I will still how it stacks up and reading all the tips as carefully as I can!

Lesson learned past weekend:

On stages where shotgun starts unloaded, bolt forwards, remember to hit the shell drop lever after you release the bolt forwards or your first shot will be a click not a bang.

Pro tip...try to get into your competitors head. Stuf like "Really, is that the choke your going to use" or "Dude, that guy was just messing with your rifle, I saw him turn your scope turrets"! Or my favourite, when someone just finishes a great run, ask them what their time was, when they tell you 45 seconds, you say "Wow, not bad, you almost beat Bob, he did it in 32 seconds"!

If you learn and master the art of the mind game, you don't have to spend nearly as much time practicing, and worrying about which gear is the best. The other benefit it gives you more time to sit on the couch watching reruns of Cheers, and drinking beer.

Your welcome!

I think RCSD is actually RDSC (Red Deer Shooting Center). But you already know that from a previous post which I missed when I started typing this... DOH!

I got my M3K through Shooter's Choice out of Vulcan. Dale was great to deal with. Great price and last time I looked he had an "October Shotgun" sale on for even more savings.

Google Fu... I like it! :)

TIP: If you setup your belt in a modular fashion you can tailor it to each stage. I find having too much stuff on my belt just leads to fumbling when you are reaching for mags. Use the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) principle whenever possible. If you don't need to have it on your belt, then take it off.

Pro tip

At big multi day three gun matches, you can often get away with using different guns more suited to the stages you're shooting that day.... Just ask Todd Jarrett

I prefer switching divisions AFTER the last shot of the match has been fired and I get a look at all the scores.

Do competitors manage to keep a running count of how many rounds are in their shotgun during a stage?

Yes. Mostly. On occasion. Sorta.

It all depends on your reloading plan and misses. Misses #### everything up. I plan out where I reload rather than trying to keep track of what's in my shotgun. It mostly works. Mostly.

I don't keep a running count of what's on board, I just plan my reloads after X number of rounds while moving....depends on stage layout.

TIP:

Since there is no power factor for 3 gun matches, the softest shooting reliable loads in your guns can be an advantage over "full power" COTS loads.

Also, magazine capacity in your rifle can be advantageous (unless otherwise specified by the match or club), so if possible LAR 10 round mags and Beowulf mags are king for most matches.
More shooting and less mag changes usually equals faster times.
