3 man MSR tent for backpacking solo VS 2 man

I got a 3 man tent for camping with the women. Will it be practical to backpack and hunt with with? Its only 1 pound heavier then the 2 man. I feel like It would give me more room for my gear.

Thoughts??????
 
Lots of space for 1 and gear in a 2 man. I would go with 1 pound less weight in most situations. Exception to this may be for a realetivly short hike in and keeping camp in one spot for a long hunt.
 
Depends. Short hike in to base camp Id stay with the 3 man just because you have it. 10 days of sheep country hiking and id loose a pound in a heart beat. 2 man MSR tents have lots of room for a person and gear. I leave all my gear under the fly outside.
 
on pack hunt I go as light as I can and use a 2man seek outside BT tent its only 1.5 lb plenty of room for me and gear but my base camp I use ether my outfitter tipi tent or 5 man bell tent with a deiseal geostove

Or, if only one tent is in the budget and the space of a 3-man is needed for other trips.
 
I would carry the extra pound for the space. But I am big, so that pound is proportionally less than for a smaller fellow and some of my gear - boots, clothes - is bigger.
 
Iv been using the hubba hubba nx for a couple seasons now, for solo, it's perfect, for two adults, I often wish I had a 3 man.
 
When I'm alone, I tend to skip on the tent all together and just go with a tarp A-frame. Im thinking about getting one of those cheap siltarp knock offs from Amazon, they're like $40-50.

If its cold enough to really want a tent, then I'm likely not going alone for safety reasons and my 3-man tent is pretty light if you split it between 2 or three packs. 3 people and personal gear are a good squeeze, but that's perfect for overnight lows into the minus-20s (coldest I've done is -36 overnight in Manning Park in February...)
 
My seek outside BeyondTimberline 2 is just 1.5 lbs but no bug screen or floor and you have to cut a Center Pole but plenty of room fore 2 people and gear if I put a wood stove in it then it becomes a one man tent not bad for a 4 season hot tent
