hello,

just gearing up for reloading. I picked up the LEE carbide 3 dies set for 9mm. Just wondering should I have gone with the 4 dies set? What's the advantage?

I'm reloading on a LEE 4 hole turret press.

thanks

I use a Lee 4 - die sets for 9mm, 45acp and 40SW.

I also have a Lee 3 die set for .38/357 as well as a FCD for it. I do not use the FCD.

I have used a Lee 3 die 9mm set in the past, as well. IMHO, no difference in ammo ballistic performance or functional (feeding reliability) performance.

On the 4-hole turret, you need 4 pulls to make one reloaded cartridge. You could have gotten a 3-hole turret for your 3-die set. No biggie.

You should be GTG.

So just to make sure I got this right. My 4th pull will be a "empty" pull? Should I get 4 die? What would it be?

Yes, the 4th pull will raise the ram onto an empty turret hole.

No need for a 4th die, IMO. I got an FCD for my 3-die 38/357 set. No need for it. It was a waste of money. As well, some knowledgeable folks on this forum are not believers in the FCD and I agree with them.

FYI, a buddy uses a Lee 3-die set for his 9mm right now...he is happy....no issues whatsoever.

You are GTG.
