Hi have a chance to purchase some Winchester lever guns. how much these three would be valued at considering they have been fully restored wood & bluing work done was impeccable. Seems big dollars go for the original ones untouched.
Did some research Gunbroker etc,on model 71 in 348 seems they are asking $2000 to $3500 for original condition question how much devaluation for restored guns.
Note; ductape was put on heels to protect steel butt plates, hope it will come off without staining wood its been there for 20 years.
Thanks in advance for any info

I'd be scared to look under the duct tape! I can't see duct tape doing any good to the wood or steel.

I think you'll have a hell of a time getting that tape off. It's sure to leave some residue stuck to the wood, so you're likely looking at having that one restored for a second time. I'm a sucker for pretty wood, and that 94 is just gorgeous. Unaltered ones in decent condition run $450-500, and I'd have no qualms about paying that for that one.

I agree, the duct tape may have buggered up the finish. The 94 has pretty wood and the butt stock has the Whelen comb popular in the 1920's Models 94 and 55.
The 1895 takedown has been modified heavily(barrel, front sight, lower tang, lever etc.)
The 71 is a nice looking rifle as well.
As far as value it is hard to put a figure on modified Winchesters, they are worth what someone will pay for them as shooters/hunting rifles.
I would guess if the tape can be removed without damage $600 for the 94, $1200-$1500 for the 71 and $800 or so for the 1895.
My 2 cents.

First off forget U.S. sites for value estmates here in Canada especial Winchester lever guns. Restocked, reblued and whats under the duct tape?

x2 on the U.S. price thing. Canadian prices are much lower in general. In Canada you would do very well to get $2000 for a MINTY model 71 standard(unless very early production) and you can usually knock off 40% to 60% from original for even well refinished rifles.

Funny how some serious Cannuck Buck will find one down south they are looking for, pay the price and
then the fare to git it up here.

Don't be too quick longbranch* to eat some of the advice given.
Do your own homework.
Nuff said.

Is it me, or do they all look to have been restocked?

The Model 94 and the 1895 have been re-stocked. They did some crazy bending of the lever on that rifle to accommodate. 30-40 Krag came standard with a 28" barrel, and not that sight. 71 "looks correct" from the photos with the exception of the sling eyes that were added. Does not look to be re-blued, but hard to tell in pics some times. I was going to suggest a blow dryer as well for the duct tape. With some careful work, I have seen tape come off ammo boxes that have been on there for decades, but not duct tape. Good luck.

The 71 appears to have had finger grooves cut into the forearm... might be the light, but I don't think so. It also looks to be refinished to my eye.

As collectors these would be reduced, but those look all to be as good as new to someone that will tastefully use them. So I would be paying a fairly high price, I could see the '94 costing $800-1000 becuase of the excellent blueing and the high grade stock set. The 1895 will cost twice that as it is a takedown. The last is a well sought after rifle so I would venture to say it would be $1200-1400. These prices are only effective if the duct tape is cleanly removable, if it is not, deduct four hours at the gunsmith for each one. I don't think the hair dryer is going to do anything but let the string pull out of the tape, I would be trying a solvent soaking on it and a plastic scraper. Old tape can get frustrating quickly, slow and steady.
Just my five cents!!!
