For anybody loading the 110 grain VMAX for 30-06 do you know the OAL? I have emailed hornady and will hopefully pickup there load manual this week but thought Id ask since someone here may be loading them?

I was going to start with the load info for 110 grainers in the lyman manual which should work, except OAL is for a hollow point not a tipped bullet...

OAL is somewhat irrelevant. The only relevant issues are is the bullet held in the neck properly and how close to the lands is it.

With the stumpy little 110gr VMAX you are going to end up far back from the lands no matter what. Just make sure the thing is pushed into the neck enough so that it can't fall out or be pushed off to the side easily and it will be fine.

Not sure what you are shooting at but I found the 110 VMAX to be too explosive on anything live. It makes a hellishly big hole through a coyote. The 125gr Nosler Ballistic Tip is a better choice for the 30-06.

The Hornady Handbook of Cartridge Reloading 8th edition recommends a 3.170" OAL for the 110 grain V-Max in .30-06.

I use the 110 grain V-Max in .270. Awesome coyote load if you aren't concerned about the pelt.

3.170" and they shot well in mine, moa out to 300yds. They do make a big hole when you push them at 3500fps...

Well I'm thinking p-dawgs and coyote elimination on the farm. Once in a while I might pick up a bag of oranges for the visual effect.

I'll have to add the nosler to my list of bullets to try. I was originally looking for the 125 grain speer tnt but couldn't find them locally.

What powders were you guys getting the best performance with? I currently have 4350 but have 4064, N150, N160 and Varget ordered.

It's not the only stick in the arsenal for gophers... just seeing what it'll do! I do shoot this rifle better than the old 22-250 as it fits better.

Picked up a box of Nosler ballistic 125's but unless they are significantly better in load testing I will be using the VMAX. Hornadys are 27.99/100 and the Nosler were 24.99/50. I made the mistake of assuming when they said the price that quantity would be similar. Although my girlfriend thinks the nosler bullets are much much... prettier :p
