30-06 165gr Swift Scirocco Load data

I'm guessing here, but 3084 fps in a 22 inch barrelled 30-06 sounds a wee bit hot to me, even with modern powders like RL 17 and IMR 4007sc.

I have both powders myself, and by all appearances, a 165 grainer at 3000 in a 24 inch tube seems about where I would stop.

When the weather warms up a bit, I will dig out the transducer and give some pressure figures. Ill predict well above 65,000 psi average for the
load you are using.

Regards, Dave

Just got back from the range again. Today was 10 shots. 5 to get me a group @ 100 and velocity average, next 5 were for 300 to see how well they group out that far.
Groups were 5 shots in 1.25"(not the greatest but good enough for hunting) Average Velocity was 3006 fps..
When I stepped out to 300yrds i was able to hold a 3.5" group on a 4" gong for 5 shots.
I know the velocity seems high and im still wondering the accuracy of my Chrony...(Cadwell) but it seems dead on with the 204 and 22-250 and my 7mm-08... so i have no reason to not trust it.

My load is as follows. Lapua Brass, Rem 91/2 primers, 56gr IMR4007SSC (55.9 Listed Max on Hodgdon Site) and 165gr Swift Scirocco 2 at Factory listed COAL...
Rifle is a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight.

Dave it would be curious to see the numbers you get.. Im not showing any signs of pressure.. No flattened primers, No sticky bolt lift etc.. Everything normal and recoil seems less then my old IMR 4831 load.

Thanks again!!! Either or I think this will be a deadly Moose load.

Thanks again ALL

Josh; The average velocity you are showing in your last post sounds not far off the mark @ 3006 avg.
This should make a deadly moose load. See a 180 in picture below, recovered from my moose.

I have achieved around these velocities with several powders in the 30-06 with the 165 grain bullet of various designs.

In any case, I would expect to get 2950+ in any 30-06 rifle unless it had a very short barrel.

I have a friend who was a bit taken aback when I told him my pet 180 Partition load graphs 2865 avg. He was
getting 2705 avg. with the load he was using. The old girl is still performing like a trooper!!

Im honestly really happy with the old -06... it is some what new to me.. im a short action fan(minus the old 6.5x55) but the 30-06 is gaining on me.. to me im questioning why a 300 win mag is needed... i have seen moose fall to alot less( 4 to my 6.5x55) to ranges of 200+ yards but everyone keeps talking the magnum route.. with getting velocites like i am with the 30-06 i dont really see the point when there has been a happy medium all along... just my 2 cents
