Anyone load this bullet? What kind of velocities did you get and with what powder?

Have you taken game with this load and what kind of results did you get?

This bullet is what we hope to have loaded for my father's 06. It may be used on Moose, Sheep, elk and possibly Griz.

My son will be using it next year in the fall and again in Africa the following summer from a 3006. I shot 5 deer last fall with 168 gr TSX and finished off a bear from a 300 WSm, awesome performance and very accurate.

in my LSS Ti

Barnes TSX-BT @ 3.37", 58.0 grs. H4350, F210M ~ 2832 fps, .57" 3 shot 100y

no kills on game yet, but I am not worried at all about its performance...;)

Bartell,

Did you try the load with a regular LR primer, and if so, what was the difference?

Do you get more velocity with the Mag primer, or just less ES on the velocity?

its not a magnum primer, its the large rifle match primer

the magnum Federal is a 215, also available in match version, 215M

I just always use the federal match primers lately, they seem to work pretty good. :)

The same load with a CCI 200 primer and RP cases work great in my son's 30-06. the TSX bullets are awesome. Last year I shot a small buck onthe last day at just under 200 yards form my 300 WSM, it took out 6 inches of spine, just turned it into somethign resembling pablum, continued on right through a 3-4 inch spruce tree about 15 ft behind the deer, still never found the bullet. The extra 200 FPS if anything should have slowed the bullet down with the slightly more dramatic expansion than it would have had from an 06.

We have a winner!

Very first group was with 59.0 gr of IMR 4350, Win Brass and Fed 210 primers

2870 fps, 3/4"@100

I will try a few more but this old Ithaca(Tikka) shoots pretty consistent. This load should take care of anything we run into and at any range that my father is capable of shooting.

a starting load of 59 grains  braver than me! :D

Well... that was never in question!:D

You are assuming I didnt shoot one at 57, look for signs of excessive pressure, then at 58, then at 59, and then shoot a group. This also fouled my barrel before I shot that first group.

I should be able to squeeze some more velocity out of this load. Everything looked fine at 59 and Barnes states that you should be able to get 2 to 3 more gr with the reduced friction although they still recommend you begin with the start load data for the standard X.

I really don't think we need the extra velocity and I will not waste time and money trying to over achieve. I'll put .5 more in and that should get me to about 2900 fps as I'm pretty close already. This is only a 22" barrel too.

Does accuracy suffer once you add the extra 2 or 3 gr that Barnes says you can add. I will be loading the same in my Steyr prohunter, and I was told that groupings will suffer. I'm not sure if this is true because I haven't loaded them yet.
Do the 215M primers make a difference? I'm also considering using them for greater ignition consistency.

Accuracy can get better or worse with any increase or decrease.

I've had loads that were most accurate when pushed to their limit and I've had handloads that spread apart at any increase above the starting load charge. I've also had loads that stayed extremely tight at any charge like my 25 06 75 gr V-max load that I worked up to 5 or more gr above max(might of been more?).

There's no rule and I don't think the TSX is the exception.

Are you talking about using the TSX in an 06? I'd use the 210 primer but yes the Match primers give you more consistent ignition.

Am I wasting time thinking that M primers will help with tighter groupings, or will I achieve the same with standard 210's.

FYI, my new load for this bullet in a .30-06 is 64.0 grains Vihtavuori N560 in a Winchester case with a WLR primer. Out of my Rem 700 Stainless Mountain Rifle I'm getting a measured 3,000 fps with no pressure signs (but I'd work up to that load). Accuracy puts the first three shots into approximately 3/4 inch at 200 metres, with the fourth shot heating that skinny barrel and opening the group up to about 1.5 - 2 inches. But the first three shots are all I care about.

I haven't shot any game with this load yet, but I can't wait to try it.
