30-06 180 gr

My standard 180 gr. load was 56-57gr IMR 4350. That should put you right in the ballpark of factory velocities.

You may get lucky and find some core lokts as components. I always like the Nosler Partition because it will work on anything. The Woodleigh PP should be a good one as well. Hornadys are garnering a bad reputation for core/jacket separations, otherwise pretty much any cup & core will do for deer. I prefer a little stouter bullet for moose.

But no sure which projectile to use or where to find it

Hornady interlock bullets are very similar to core-lokt in design... just a cup and core bullet with a ring pressed into it to help keep the lead in the jacket. Pretty sure cabelas carries them. The last ones i bought were from Green Diamond.

My go-to load with 180 grain bullets in the 30-06 is 61/62 grain of Norma MRP, depending on the rifle.
Gives very good velocities, and is generally quite accurate as well.
However, many powders are suitable, from the W760/H414 sphericals up to Reloder 22 and MRP. Dave.

Priceless info.
Why settle for anemic 30-06 with fragile Rem Core Lockts, Hornady Interlocks and 2700 fps?
RL 22 is ultimate powder for 30-06 and 180 gr bullets.
I have LH Ruger in 30-06 RCBS Imp with 23" long 12" twist magnum profile fluted Shultz & Larsen barrel and extended magazine to 3.5" (COAL up to 3.475").
CCI 200 primer and 62gr of reloader 22 behind 180gr Swift Sirocco in Win nickel brass (after 6 loadings primer pockets still tight) gives me 2950-2970fps
and tight 1/2" three shot groups at 100m. At that distance with bullets printing 2.5" high the drop at 300m is 6" and at 400m is only 18"!.
That's what I call modern 30-06.
With that kind of performance who needs a magnum?

My load matches max load for 180gr bullet in 30-06 AI from Nosler Reloading Guide fifth edition.
It is safe in my rifle....in yours might not be - please follow usual safety precautions.

If you can find them my favorite budget .30 cal projectile is the winchester 180 power point.
Hornady flat base interlock shoots fantastically in my .30-06 so I did shoot a lot of them, however I have since switched for my all around load. I have little doubt the interlock will kill what you want another option worth considering is the SST and Interbond combo, both shot to the POI in a couple of my rifles so SST gets the call for practice and the Interbond gets used for hunting.

All I use anymore is H4350 near max and a 180 grain Hornady Interbond. Yes, you can find powders that will drive a 180 grain a little faster, but H4350 is temperature insensitive and gives fantastic accuracy.

I agree with the H4831 too. It is my "back-up" choice if I am out of H4350. I still go to the H4831 for loading the 220 grain pills though. Decent velocity and excellent accuracy and they hit like the hammer of Thor.
