30-06 180 gr

Priceless info.
Why settle for anemic 30-06 with fragile Rem Core Lockts, Hornady Interlocks and 2700 fps?
RL 22 is ultimate powder for 30-06 and 180 gr bullets.
I have LH Ruger in 30-06 RCBS Imp with 23" long 12" twist magnum profile fluted Shultz & Larsen barrel and extended magazine to 3.5" (COAL up to 3.475").
CCI 200 primer and 62gr of reloader 22 behind 180gr Swift Sirocco in Win nickel brass (after 6 loadings primer pockets still tight) gives me 2950-2970fps
and tight 1/2" three shot groups at 100m. At that distance with bullets printing 2.5" high the drop at 300m is 6" and at 400m is only 18"!.
That's what I call modern 30-06.
With that kind of performance who needs a magnum?

My load matches max load for 180gr bullet in 30-06 AI from Nosler Reloading Guide fifth edition.
It is safe in my rifle....in yours might not be - please follow usual safety precautions.

Amen!

My only recommendation is that hunters avoid cheap “cup and draw” bullets and use premium ones.

I just loaded up my first test loads with 180 woodleigh ppsn, re22, and CCI 200 in nosler brass.
I will hope to get out soon and have something good to report. Those cases do get a little full with that powder but my old Brno has plenty of mag length and free bore.

Fired 5 shot groups and 61.1 & 61.4gr are looking very promising.
It’s a very full case and I have plenty of freebore and mag space to seat the bullets out a ways.
I went as far as 62gr (Nosler Max) but groups were starting to open up and shift too far away from poi that 61.1 and 61.4 were almost dead on together.
Did not run the chrono but I will now that I know I’ll be loading about 61.3gr

30-06 with RL22 and 180 grain pill is a match made in heaven. I have gone as high as 61 grains and would not go over. My chrono if I recall correctly suggests a max speed of 2750 fps or in that area depending on barrel length. If my speeds were greater than 2750 I would be concerned about pressure. A 30-06 is not a 300 mag and was never meant to be. Nothing like a partition or an accubond although there are certainly other good bullets if not better. Happy shooting!!!!!

I am going to reload a test batch for my 30-06 Weatherby Vanguard Series 2

I have stock in Hodgdon Superformance powder
I have stock in Nosler Partition 180 grain bullets
I have stock in Winchester LR primers
I have stock in 30-06 Nosler brass

Time to reload!

I noticed a load recipe on the Hodgdon reloading website that is close to what I have so I will begin reloading at the minimum load and see what the MagnetoSpeed chronograph says! This is going to be a fun summer!
