looking for some experiences with 200 grain bullets in the 30-06. Ive loaded them a bit before, 200 grain Speers in a Model 70 pushfeed over discontinued WXR, and 200 gr Lapua Mega in a Model 700 Titanium, over H4350.

Well now I have another 700, looking to load both 200 grain Speer SP & Barnes 200 gr TSX. Id usually reach for H4350 first but Im just about out and got quite a bit H4831sc so I am thinking I might try that.

Looking for 2550 fps in my 24" tube, and enough accuracy to hunt bear out to a couple hundred yards  I guess Ill start at 55 or so grains with the 200 grain Speer.

Anybody got a 200 grain recipe?

H4831 with the 200 grainer, and 55 grains is the starting load in the barnes book, smart move, and 57 if you get there, will pass your target velocity.
The nice thing about the 06 , is most of them a 10 twist, and accuracy is great with the heavy bullets, if you got a gun from these parts.

Had good luck with H4831 and Barnes X bullets, really hammers the moose.
RL 22 would another good choice for that bullet weight.

Tod,
I will rather stick to h4350 and loaded with 55gr, that will push your Speer SP with velocity close to 2600fps and will fill your case almost 100%, unless you check the distance to the lands and back out down to .030-.040", then you can even use bit more powder and gain better velocity.

As for barness tsc, it is all together different bullet and to stay safe go with h4350 with charge of 51.5gr. That will give you approximately 2500fps and you gonna be around 6000psi under max pressure.

I've found RL22 to be a good powder in my 30-06 with the heavier bullets. I don't think it would be too hard to get 2600 fps with 200 gr bullets from a 24" tube.

I loaded 200 gr Speer spitzers in an '06 for a while, but found they didn't perform any better than the 180 gr Partition.

Actually, they did not do as well as the partition on really big animals.

I'd go with either Reloder 22 or H4831SC. I'd probably choose Reloder 22 to start. Remember, you can push those Tripleshocks a little harder than conventional bullets without getting excessive pressures.

200 grain Speer would just be for practice, I have a hundred of them on hand. I also have a box of TSX, so Im not going to go out and buy a box of 180 grainers ;)

30-06 is boring? No, boring is talking about it on the intraweb when you could be out shooting one in real life

Range time tommorow..

200 gr TSX over 58 grains of H4831sc does 2535 fps avg in my 24" model 700, accuracy hovers around MOA

200 gr Speer over the same powder charge did 2590 fps, groups as good if not better than the Barnes

200 gr Lapua mega round nose over 57.5 grs H4831sc does 2510 fps and shoots MOA

I used WLRM magnum primers to ensure a good spark to the heavy charge of slow powder.
