I feel like an average 180-grain soft point at 150 yards would be adequate for an ethical kill on a Moose, provided shot placement is correct.
Why can I not find any 30-06 ammunition packages with a picture of a Moose or the word Moose.
I see plenty with Deer, Elk, Bear...but no Moose.
Is there a reason or that.

Is 30-06 not suggested for Moose any longer ?

Do we need a 300 Win. Mag now after all these years ?

you'll need 30-06 hard points designed for piecing moose hair.
I'm on the side of thinking that its all marketing. Yes, you need that super magnum because you flinch and shoot poorly so it needs to be balanced with MORE power
not to mention (sadly) hunting has changed and hunting is done at a minimum of 450 yards on youtube
Your first thought is the same as mine

Shot a few Elk and Moose with a 30-06 using 165gr Nosler Partitions and 165gr Accubonds, try Nosler Trophy Grade 165gr or 180gr Accubond, Barnes VOR-TX 150gr TTSX or 168gr TTSX, Federal Terminal Ascent 175gr, any of those factory options will work extremely well.

Most of the ammo Canada gets is from the good ol' USA. Not many moose hunters there other than Maine and Alaska. As has been said, it's mostly marketing.

most ridiculous thread upvote.

Seriously - ANY large game loading in '06 (or .303, or .308, or 300 Savage, or 8mx57 or any of the other '06-like round), even Wichester superX or Powerpoint 180's will be more than enough for the job. We're not debating which .223 bullet might make the caliber acceptable for moose here - we are talking about a round that has killed everything on 4 legs, amply.

If even the crappiest 180gn soft point ammo won't do the job, then your aim is terrible and you have no place hunting moose to begin with.

My preference is for my 35Whelen with a 225 grain pill or my 30-06 with anything from 150 to 1890 grains but I know of several bull moose that dropped due to 130 grains from a 270Win.

I guess my lack of writing skills clouded my point .
I stacked some more 30-06 from SFRC on sale this weekend and while browsing the choices available someone walked by and asked how I knew which one to buy and if it was good for Moose seeing as most said Deer, Elk,Bear on the box.
They questioned why I just didn't by the $37 ammo and why I opted for the $59 ammo.
Made me really think that actual in school classes to learn about this type if stuff might be a good thing
It should be easier for new hunters to make a choice.

My old man fed us kids & extended family moose meat for 40 yrs all killed with a 30-06 and 150 gr cup & core slugs and he wasnt bashful about stretching the range out to 300-350 yrds if needed
