I'm new to hunting, I have two 308s and one 30-06. Hopefully this fall I'll be deer hunting. With that in mind, and never ending shortages, I figured I'd get a couple different boxes, of a couple brands, in both calibers now, then this spring when weather is approximately same as fall deer season, I can go out and see what ammo works best in both calibers. Question is, why is 30-06 so hard to find ? SFRC theammosoarce for example, pages of 308, not one listing for 30-06. My local store had shelves of 308, but 1box of 180 gr and 2 boxes of, 220 I think it was, in 30-06. 150 gr in 06 is pretty hard to come by, so much for trying a few brands. I've got a box of 150 gr Hornady sst bullets coming, so I could reload, but for my first hunting, I thought I'd go with factory.

I've got one box of 150 and four 180 in 30-06 but shipping it is likely expensive from ottawa... all ammo is hard to come by right now. don't know if it is all being made for the war right now or what...

30-06 is a very popular round and pretty much everyone and their dog has at least one rifle in this chambering
the good thing is deer don't care if the ammo you shoot at them is factory or reloads
so start cranking that press :)

I think I can link this since it's not a sales website, but an aggregate site for ammunition from other websties. https://ammobin.ca/ I use that site to find ammunition. It's not 100% up to date, but it's worked out great for me every time I've used it. Sometimes it links to old out of stock stuff but way she goes just keep searching till it's not. I've been using Sako Ammunition lately for 30/06 and it seems to be very well manufactured when I compare it to some of the cheaper federal box's I have. Nothing wrong with the federal stuff it does the job, but the Sako stuff I got put side by side is clearly a step up in quality.

Here's a couple hundred listings: arsenalforce.ca/ammunition/ammo/30-06

That said, reload. The old warhorse is a beast when you dial in your seating depth and charge it with a modern propellant. 150fps over factory is fairly easy to accomplish out of a regular sporter.

All ammo is hard to find right now. Panic buying and hoarding, with the vast majority of it happening in the states. Then it happens here with what actually makes it to our shelves.

Heres an anecdote - Just prior to the 2016 American election when people were convinced Clinton was going to win, Americans were hoarding. My father in law and I went in to a big box hunting store in the GTA and the guy in front of us offered to buy every box of ammo in the establishment. All of it. He was American.

Youre doing the right think by buying now. Thats long been my motto. By ammo whenever I find it for a good price. Dont wait until the month before hunting season.

Only 1 listing for 150 gr, that's my problem, I'm two ferries away from anywhere, so shipping is a factor, I was hoping for a place to order a couple boxes in each caliber, of a couple different makes, at 40 bucks and up shipping, it's not really feasible to order from 3 or 4 places. If I was in Vancouver or Calgary, I'd just spend that $40.00 in gas and hit a bunch of stores.

Ya reloading is starting to look better and better, for the price of 3 boxes of factory shipped, I can get 4 boxes of 100 in different brands of bullets, and unlike a lot of others I do have 800 LR, and my powders were bought in the $40.00-50.00 range. I'm also a firm believer that if I buy a caliber of gun, I buy the dies to go with it, even if I don't plan on reloading for it.

Ya I tried that, only 30-06 in 150 gr was winchester, my least favorite ammo, went to get the hornady whitetail 150 gr 308 they say they had in-stock, but of course not there.

Interesting, Winchester was always my go to for factory ammo before I started reloading. Maybe it has changed in the past 25 years but it was always the most consistent for me. Mind you I wouldn't pay the 55 bucks they want for it now.

And I don't know about that link, page 4 has a listing of $6999,00 per box, or $349.00 per round.

It's an aggregate site meaning it links to other websites who sell the product. Ignore the insane priced items, and the out of stock stuff. If you know how to use amazon correctly then you can use that site correctly. If you don't know how for some odd reason. Just filter by price and work your way up the list. 90% of my ammo is purchased from store links on ammobin, or sales listed from on here during the big seasonal sales. Honestly anyone who can't figure out how to use a site like that, shouldn't be online shopping to begin with.

Since your going to reload and find an aggregate site to hard to deal with. I will give the suggestion of looking up the various forum posts on scam websites that have to do with reloading supplies. Wouldn't want you to fall pray of the actual scammers that have been screwing people over both in Canada and the states.
