What would cause this?

I bought a Rem740 from the gun show the other day, cleaned it up and took it out to test it this afternoon.

Fired flawlessly, cycled fine but I noticed that some of the spent casings had a bit of a dent on them (up top where the actual bullet is inserted into the casing).

I can take a pic later on if you don't know what I'm talking about, if you do, please let me know what you figure it might be?

Thanks!

Shawn

a lot of semi automatics do this. i had a Swedish AG42b that had this habit, would chew up brass pretty good, i was lucky to get 5 saveable cases out of a box of twenty cartridges

ya my M-305 dose what you are saying leaves a little dent in the case but it can be worked out with the right tools....
talk to ya all later

When this happened on my milsurp SVT40, I just adjusted the gas pressure so that it ejected the cartridge with a little more force and that resolved the problem. I have no idea if this would apply to your rifle.

Anyone have any comments?

Those dents don't have to be "worked out". As long as the neck is OK, just resize the case and fire as-is

I didn't even realize that the gas pressure could be adjusted... is this possible with my rifle? (Remington 740)
