30-06 Complement ? 9.3x62@Post 67

They're fairly light rifles: my 9.3 was around 7 1/2 lbs, bare rifle before I started doing mods. Mine is an FN 98 and likely a little heavier than the one above, which is 1600 series. They put really skinny barrels on them, same contour as a .30/06 in fact, just a big gaping hole when you look at the muzzle end.

As you can see we all have views. The "06 will do it all( some better than others), so what cartridge do you find intriguing ? Love the 375 and so many great guns, but how about a 17 Rem,( just got one-great fun), a Hornet or Bee, you get the idea. We love to play so get what you think is exciting and play!

I went with a 338 win mag for the step up. Eventually I got a 375 h&h also. For smaller I have a 270 win in the rifle platform I wanted. I couldn't find a 25-06 in that particular rifle so I bought a 270. Turns out I like the 270 cal more than the 25-06 that I sold to fund the 270! I say the same as many other posts, step up a meaningful amount in caliber size rather than a similar size that is going faster.

To get a rifle that offers significantly more punch at range than a good 06 load, you would have to go to something like a .300 magnum of some flavour with 200 grain loads or a .338 magnum. Both are great at range but you pay a price in recoil that some (me) don't appreciate. I see no advantage of a 7mm mag over a good 06. If you hadn't mentioned longer ranges out to 400 then a 9.3x62 would offer a good alternative. I'm not a fan of such long shots but I live in the east and just don't hunt areas that are that wide open. While I really like my .300 H&H, there is almost no situation where my .30-06 with 180 Nosler Partitions wouldn't be a great choice. I usually use smaller cartridges.

Just got the rifle. Planning on getting Weaver Grand Slam Medium rings for it which makes the Nikon scope just clear the bolt handle. Now missing a #55 rear base...

I am thinking about putting a recoild pad on it. What are you guys thoughts on this ?
That trigger got no creep or grittyness, but I would guess it probably breaks at like 7-8lbs...
Bolt release spring is broken on it. (Awaiting TradeEx response)
Wood has some chip/rubbing on bolt handle side, which has been steamed out and looks alright now.
Bluing is very good.

Good to see sumthing old school instead of plastic and stainless steel
If the NDP and green partys dont screw up my grizzly hunt I mite order a Mauser from Trade Ex 9.3x??

Is it the photo or is the stock a little short in the toe? I like where this is going. Definitely get that rear ring and base though...it'll be handy.

cool ,looks like a good woods rifle with thump! does look tame in the recoil department like a ruger type weight, id put a recoil pad on it for sure, new soft type!

happy shootin!!

You won't regret your 9.3X62 discovery, Megaclocker.

Send me your mailing address, and I'll put a #55 base in the mail to you.

Ted

Bought one #55 today.
Had some seriously awesome service at Corlanes in Dawson Creek.

Got scope rings and buttpad (not installed yet). Slings swivels to be screwed in. Still waiting for TradeEx for the broken bolt release spring.
Wood shined up real good and almost all dents steamed out.

That thing is quite a bit lighter than my 6.5x55 above.

Cool gun man! I'm actually half jealous looking from a newly purchased T3 9.3 hahaha!!

that's a true good lookin woods rifle! hope you whale some big critters with her

Anyone got a source for one ? The only option I could find is to buy a 400$ Husqvarna with a steel trigger guard and gut it.

The alloy floorplate and the steel one are quite different. Using a steel one in that stock, will leave huge gaps on each side of the front guard screw.

I would repair it using Permatex Cold Weld, and call it good. I have used that stuff many times, and it is really good. It can be machined and threaded after it cures. You could fill the entire front area with Cold Weld, and then drill it out for the guard screw.

From the picture, it appears that the repair will not show in the assemble rifle.

I'll phone TradeEx monday and see what kind of options I have. Might just buy a second rifle and complete this one with it.

I could grind the bulging part and bed the trigger guard near the front recoil lug.
(The front recoil lug probably had poor contact with the stock and caused the trigger guard to crack...)

Well big thanks to TradeEx for hooking me up with a replacement spring and cutting me a small deal on a beautiful Husqvarna 30-06 that got used as a donor for the 9.3mm.

Top is scoped 9.3 with donated parts and bottom is the 30-06 with the cracked stock and trigger guard (will be a great loaner/truck rifle)

Anyone got a solution for those 50lbs triggers lol... ?

If the OP's question is whats the complement to a .30-06, then ..

My .30-06 is a mint Winchester model 70 Super Grade .30-06 .. with Grade V highly figured walnut stock, made in the USA in 2011-2012, a safe-queen that never gets out.
The complement to it, in my case, would be one of my stainless Kimbers, say the Montana in .243 .. with its carbon-fibre stock, also US made, a hunting tool - not a safe-queen.

.30-06 is as big as I need, and the Super Grade is as heavy as I want to carry, as well as being gorgeous
.243 is as small as I need, and the Montana is as light as a feather, as well as being handsome in its own way.

So, my question to myself ... do I really NEED all of my other rifles? .. lol.
