Im looking at loading some heavy bullets for the ole' ought six. Anybody here have any luck with em'. Im thinking 220 gr. Hornady RN with IMR-4350 @ moving @2450-2500 fps ?

Will most 30-06 sporting guns stabilize the 220 ? I think that most 30-06 commercial rifles are 1-10" twist ? Need to check mine, not sure.
 
You're on the right track with that bullet & powder - you'll most likely hit the 'happy spot' somewhere between 52 and 53.5 gr. (depending on your brands of brass and primers.)

I use 52.5 gr. IMR4350 / WW brass / CCI-200 primers as a standard load, and it's one of the first I try with any new-to-me .30-06. If it won't shoot that load reasonably well, chances are the rifle has 'issues'.

I also have good luck with 220 gr. Nosler Partitions and RL22.

Those loads work like a charm in my rifles, all of which are 'older' .30-06's - FNs, HVAs and the like.
 
I would load a good 180 gr bullet like a TSX or partition and forget about the 220. The weight is there to ensure proper penetration, a 180 gr TSX will blow through anything that a 220 gr roundnose will. The load will be significantly flatter.
 
What are you using it for? The 208 AMAX is an awesome long range bullet in the 30-06. And with all those nice areas to shoot 1000-1400 yards down off the logging roads at the end of Pine St....
 
Pine street..yes. There's also an old Airstrip down Kamistotia that ive been meaning to use as a range...oh well there's always next year.

Well I guess I should of mentioned the load is mainly suited for close up work / woods hunting, Im not worried about flat trajectory.

I considered Barnes but I prefer conventional bullets mainly because I can shoot twice as much for less money. Dont' get me wrong the Barnes have their place but I rather use them in some the fast stepping cartridges that mandate premium bullets.

30-06's typically have 1-10" twist barrels. You shouldn't have any issues stabilizing that bullet.

I don't have the exact coordinates but I heard it was next to the old Mine Ill have to a look in the spring. Look around 48°35'18.97"N and 81°37'0.81"W
 
That's only a km from all the cottages, I'll stick to the uninhabited areas down Pine...

Also, you should be able to get higher velocities than what you list above in the '06. I get those with 210's in my 308.
