30-06 is boring

The .222 Remington is a scaled down 30-06. The 223/5.56 is a direct derivative of the 222. So the 30-06 has parentage of all NATO small arms except pistol.

...and would it be a stretch to say that the 30-06 was inspired by the 8x57 Mauser?

The .30/06 is a scaled-up 7x57. The Americans took a drubbing at the hands of the Spanish in the war of 1898, (as did the British at the hands of the Boers) so they copied both rifle and cartridge. The 7x57 is a direct descendant of the 8x57, the first rimless cartridge.

The only 30-06 i have is my Garand and I don't find it boring. I would probably own one for hunting, but i already have several 303s and a 9.3x62.

It’s a 1946 Winchester Model 70. Factory barreled action with sights removed.
Scope is a Hi-Lux W.M. Malcom USMC 8x. Basically an affordable remake of the original Unertl USMC 8x scope. Very clear.
I feed it a steady diet of 200gr SMK’s or 200gr ELD-X bullets in front of either H4350 or Re17.

This fall it will be getting a new barrel with a match chamber that will be a copy of the original heavy profile.

Built to be a Hatchcock tribute rifle.

It may be boring but it get the job done. It's likely one of the best calibers around for what Northern Ontario has to offer in the way of game. I love my my mtn lss cambered in it.

Well, I have to agree to a point that the '06 is boring. It's effective on anything in N.A., shoots flat enough to be capable well beyond where the average guy should not try shooting game, available in factory form anywhere, doesn't bite the wallet too hard, and doesn't kill you with recoil (most of the time). Me, I like to tinker with stuff, so if a cartridge is in the do it all category right out of the box, well, it's boring to me.

I don't get the 'boring' designation.
Common yes, but not boring.

This cartridge has probably been the genesis of more successful variants than any other, being the foundation of the great .270 Winchester, 25-06, 7mm-06, .280 Remington, .338-06, and .35 Whelen

If being the most versatile round produced to date is boring, well I must officially be a fudd!

A great calibre, not my personal favourite, but still officially awesome!

Candocad.

A toyota corolla has no issues keeping up with any speed limit in north america, they stop as fast as one would need them too and they are super reliable. FWD so very easy and perdictable to drive in the snow, Why doesnt everyone who owns a car just have a corolla?

Just because something works doesnt mean its the best. Some times the most common stuff is the most boring.
