You are not wrong there. There is a ton of rather bland boring rounds out there.

I've got a friend who "hates" 30-06. One day I finally asked him "What's your beef with the 06?"

"30-06 is a great round, if you want to own one gun that will target shoot at most ranges and hunt anything in North America. If you like owning different guns, geared toward specific things, it's the worst."

That's not to say I'd never own a 30-06 (I'm actually strongly considering one) but his logic makes sense to me.

I have never been without at least 1 30-06 in the gunsafe.
If I am "dithering" when deciding what to take on a hunt, the
30-06 is probably going to get the nod. Never been let down
by the '06. Gets the job done with a minimum of fuss. Dave.
