30-06 loads for 2700fps/180gr

If you want to achieve 2700+ FPS with a 180 grain 30-06, it can usually be attained
with:
60/61 grains of H4831, 57/58 grains of IMR 4350, 60/61 grains of Norma MRP, 59/60 grains of IMR 4831,
59/60 Grains of RL19, 60/61 grrains of Vihtavuori N560, 61/62 grains of Winchester WXR.

Probably some I have missed here, but in any barrel 22" or longer, I expect velocities over 2700.
I have not yet tried RL17, but it has the potential.

I would recommend that any of these loads be started from 3 grains below, and work up CAREFULLY!!

Regards, Eagleye.

i load 57 grns of imr 4350, cci 250, 180 noz, honady or sierra with a win case. averages just under 2800fps out of a 22 inch barrel. this load has worked in a few 30 06's. very accurate.

I used 59.0 grains of H4831 SC behind Hornady Interlocks for fairly consistent performance in my 22" barrel. Unfortunately, I don't have a chrony (If someone in the Lower Mainland, BC has one that I could use when they are at the range, please PM me). In my rifle, I tried everything from 56 up to 60 and while 58 was ok, 59 was the key. Everything else spread out.

I have an even better 3-hole group that is only spread 1" horizontally due to a breezy day, no vertical variance though!

I know this is not the hunting forum, but just in case you're looking for terminal performance as well:

The mushrooms on these Interlocks removed from a bear are not nearly as pretty as the perfect 4-petal mushroom from a Core-lokt retrieved from a moose but that is likely do to the proximity - 40m to the bear, 220m to the moose

I like to have a factory option to fall back on.

Sometimes I will take a factory load like a Federal Premium or a Nosler Trophy Grade load and duplicate it exactly. I make sure the speed is identical and the point of impact is perfectly the same.

I don't know why, really. It's just fun.

Let me tell you something. Advertised factory numbers are BULL-####.

Now that said, here are some 2700fps loads for a 30'06 with a 180gr bullet:

So...in conclusion, what are you talking about?!?!!

Seriously, it seems there are more loads that DO reach 2700+fps than those that do not. There is even a fair number that reach 2800fps.

Bottom line, it is NOT difficult to match factory speeds, trust me.

However those are book listed speeds, it's what is measured over a chronograph that matters.

Yes, but we must remember that the premise of the OP was that factory ammo was advertised as doing 2700fps and loading manuals don't show a similar velocity. I was demonstrating that:

a) reloading manuals DO show 2700fps loads, in fact they show many 2800+fps loads
b) factory advertised data is B.S. just the same as book reloading data could be.

Good point, it's also very rifle dependant. One rifle will hit 2800 with the same bullet and XX grains of Y powder but the next could be showing pressure signs at 2690.
