30 06 loads

sry guys I contacted my friend and gave him the link to the thread so he could read for himself. I lied... sry we were using 165 grain bullets not 150. All is good now.

Hey Guy. I've been reloading for a number of years, and going back over some of your posts on this thread, somewhere along the line, there is more of a problem than the bullet weight being out by 15grs. Your choice, or final decission, but personally, I'd be tempted to go over everything!! How much reloading have you done or how long have you been at it?

I still don't see how this clears things up. 43 gr. powder does not equal 1/4 full case. It doesn't equal 1/2 full case as far as I can tell. Also, looking at the chart on IMR's page, starting loads for the 165 gr. bullet listed, (sierra SPBT) the starting load is the same. Something still doesn't add up.

BINGO!! My point exactly.;)

Tried It

Tried it last night. 45 g of IMR 4895 in a 30-06 case is at least 2/3 full maybe a little more. Of course the powder shakes around pretty good, its not a compressed load! If you are unsure, pull a bullet and re-weigh the powder (maybe on someone else's scale?).

I'd just pull 2 bullets and dump one case into the other and see if you overfill. At least you'd know if you are close or way off. If you did the reloading in one session you could have easily incorrectly set the scale and every charge could be light.

STOP re read your manuals and start concetrating if u dont understand the manual read it till you do. i had trouble in the begining to but i would check and re check and re check every case i did. u should do the same.

safety is number one.

Well we shot it the other day and it worked great. We decided to dump the 43, and 44 grain and up it to 46, and 47 ultimately we decided 47 seems to work the best. I was very impressed with the rifles accuracy, and my friend (who is a much better shot than me) managed to put 4 rounds @ 50 yards in a group that was about 1inch in spread, wish I could show you a picture. He thought it was fluke, but I know the rifle sure is working great.
