I had the ultimate 30-06 black rifle about 10 years ago and sold it to Williams Arms and kind of regret it as it was a Valmet hunter. Just wasn't lovin it enough! Thanks--Dieseldog!

She's a remy woodmaster 742.. Would 10 shot+ pistol mags be a possibility?

Well if she was of a .308 calibre then possibly, but no. The 30-06 is a longer round then the .308 and while the 30-06 is a much loved calibre by the hunting community I'm not aware of anyone ever offering a 30-06 in a semi.-auto. pistol (with detachable 10Rd. mag too).

While your plans would definitely give you an opportunity to build your smith'in skills as you add a few picatinny rails along with a brake perhaps and some sort of custom rear stock; I fear some might think you are destroying a fine hunting rifle (myself included).

May I suggest building your smith'in wood working skills by making a custom (home built) made pistol grip rear stock and pica tinny rail equipped custom (home built) front stock and perhaps camo-taping them for the cool look, adding a bi-pod while looking for a few 5Rd. detachable mag.'s as a simpler start.

This way you could still keep the fine original wood (which is hard to find in affordable new rifles today) in what appears to be good factory condition and maintain the possibility of returning this rifle to it's original condition should you ever feel the need.

Then use this rifle while saving up for something a little easier to find tacticool accessories for that also offers more affordable (.308) ammo. like a M-305, FNAR, XCR-M, Famae 542, M1A, ATRS MH...

Regardless it is your rifle to do as you please, saying that it's a lot of work modifying a rifle when everything must be custom made.

Cheers D

If you could find some extended mags, a railed forend or top of the receiver, and an adjustable stock, this thing could be a kickass setup.
