Hi guys! Its finally Done!

This rifle started life as a Remington 700 SPS/SS/DM/ Camo, in 30-06 Sprg.

The goals with this build was to make a switch barrel rifle capable of shooting all the factory offerings of the 30-06 case family. (25-06 Rem, 270Win, 280 Rem, 30-6, & 35 Whelen).

After looking at various stock designs A-5's /Machined platforms (Tac21,Elisio, etc.), I was undecided what to go with. I contacted Jerry Teo of "Mystic Precision", and discussed some of my options.

I decided to go with the Choate "Custom Tactical stock". Fully adjustable, and very solid.

I ordered the stock and two Shilen Match Select barrels from Mystic:

1.) .308, 1:10" twist, 30" long,#7 Heavy Taper. To be chambered in 30-06 Sprg.
2.) .284, 1:8" twist, 30" Long, #7 Heavy Taper. To be chambered in 280 Remington.

Jerry put me into contact with Terry at Black Art Rifle Co. and we discussed the build.

I got the action fully blue printed and Sleeved, and had the action and barrels flat matte finished.

The action lug was replaced with a heavy gauge recoil lug and pinned to the action to facilitate removal of the barrels, and prevent the action lug from moving.

The action and barrels were match marked so that I could adjust the barrels to proper head space by aligning the marks.

*I plan on getting a full set of headspace gauges to monitor this from time to time.

Now all that's left to order (other than the headspace gauges), is the barrel vise and action wrench.

Here are a few profile pictures, and a set of targets from today. Load stats are on the picture (all safe in my gun). Hope you Gunnutz like them!

Those bullets look sick, seem to perform well to. That choate stock looks quite similar to the a5, do you find it to be comfortable and "not cheap", I hate those regular choate sniper stocks ugliest things ever. Very nice build

Nice build. Not a fan of the weaver tactical rings, especially with a nf scope.

No doubt

My 40MOA Rail and Mark4 Rings have not come in yet! And there was "NOOOOOOO WAYYY' that I was going to wait another month to shoot it!

I work two weeks on and one off. I just HAD to throw something together to get it shooting!

CANT ARGUE WITH THE RESULTS THOUGH! The Cheap rail and rings are surprising me as well!

The stock is comfortable to me, and it is "NOT THE CHOATE STOCKS OF OLDE'!" Solid as heck, (a bit heavy though).

I added a thin soft rubber recoil pad of my own. The stock is hugely adjustable! Very comfortable in the prone position!

Nice build, I like that you are using an old stand by for your project. Everyone these days is going for the latest and greatest cartridge, meanwhile the 30-06 has been around for years and can be made to shoot very well as you have proven. Nice job.

Dale Jansen of Chinchaga bullet co. Made these bullets.

The steel tip is "very" profiled to maximize the possible BC.
The boat tail design is slightly rebated. It is supposed to faciltate a cleaner/square release from the muzzle, and still have the same effect as a conventional boattail design.

This bullet I am using averages 176 grains.
Chinchaga makes a 200 & 235 grain version as well.
I shoot the 235 grain bullet in my 300 win mag. Its a beautiful design! Very sleek!

Dthunter, thanks for the info. I am very interested in trying the 235 grain in my .300WM. Does Dale make the steel tip in .338?

I am not sure. I think he does. I have been lucky enough to visit Dale on occasion, and he gave me the opportunity to help him make some of these, and other bullets! He's a real nice guy, and knows his stuff!

Sounds good. I have sent him an email and will just wait for his reply.

Cheers.

I just checked my collection of bullets I got from Dale/Chinchaga Bullet Co, and he does/did make them.
I am not sure if he still has the forming dies, but he did have them. We made a few different bullets when I was there one time.

From left to right: .257 caliber,135 grain ULD, .308 caliber, 155 grain ULD, 235 grain ULD, .338caliber, 300 grain ULD
