Guys, while digging through some boxes of my old parts I acquired over the years, I found this small bag labelled "navy adaptor" with a chamber adaptor and a plastic "part" inside. I had no problem finding about the horror stories on the adaptors when they would extract with a fired round and the next unsupported .308 round goes off, but I couldn't find a single picture on the internet for the adaptors in my search and was wondering if anyone can tell me what the plastic "piece" is for? It seems to be an odd find and I would like to know more about it.

That's exactly what it is, for the M1 Garand, fits in the fore part of the place where the ammo is inserted. The gap in the middle is to allow for the movement of the tension lever that pushes up on the follower.
