30-06. What next?

For deer why not use what has been used for over 100 years ;)

I think they are both too similar.Ive had a 30-06 or three in my closet at any given time for over 30 years now,bought n sold a lot of other rifles over the years,the ol odd six is still my go to and arguably the most versatile/do-all chamberings of all time that you could ask for,plenty capable for anything that walks in Alberta,although if we could hunt grizzlies here I’d welcome the excuse to buy a big kickass magnum big bore,lol.
If you’re just looking for something to get you by until your 06 clears the import hurdles,have fun and enjoy a new to you cartridge....or buy another 06,I just have a hard time justifying needing another rifle in the arsenal to “compliment” the 30-06 for,lighter recoiling/flatter shooting or hard hitting heavier load,neither does anything “that much better” then the o6.
I would look at what region of Alberta you are living and what type of habitat and game you are most likely to hunt?
Primarily gonna hunt deer in in crop fields and bald ass Prairie,sure,the 6.5 or any one of the flat shooting 7mms will give you a slight edge over 30-06 if you plan to keep the new rifle.Northern AB boreal/west central foothills...maybe elk,bear and WT on the menu,moose in the future....shots are often as not well under 100m,if you want something different just for fun maybe a big bore lever,or if you want some extra thump that can stretch its leg across a cutblock and smack an elk or moose with authority,any one of the 7mm,.30 or .338 magnums are popular choices up here.
Don’t overthink it....find a good deal on any decent medium bore rifle to get you by until your 06 arrives,and then the only other centerfire rifle you will “need” to compliment it is a small bore centerfire varmint rifle imho.

Nonsense.
30-06 Superformance 150GMX can run neck and neck with 7Rem 150gr to 400y,and only drops an extra 2-3” @500......how far do you really need to be able to shoot?
I will guess that 95% or more of all game shot in AB is <300y,and <5% of all hunters have any bizness ever taking any shots at live game beyond 400.
Of that elite 5% that are actually capable of making accurate first round hits at 4-500 and beyond,95% of scenarios it’s possible to stalk closer and close that distance by half at least.
Everybody loves to espouse the virtues of all of these flat shooting,latest,greatest “long range” miracle pills......very few have the skill sets to take full advantage of them,or make ethical shots much beyond 300y,let alone 400-500+.

I suspect if you are successful with a new rifle in either 6.5 Creedmoor or 7mm-08 your .30-06 will start collecting an awful lot of dust. I wouldn't put money on you parting with your .30-06 you are going through the trouble of importing it so there must be some sentimental attachment to it. If you are going to be years without your .243 why not select something similar to it?

My discounting of the 06. is because he already has a 06. I have a T3 06, which has been my hunting rifle seven years now.

I would suggest the 7 and 06 are close, just as the 7 and 300wm are close. You are never going to get a 06 to perform better than a 7, irrelevant in that there is no difference between dead and dead.

Depends where you live. Couriers don't deliver to my house. I lucked out and found a bunch at lgs. When I mentioned availability, I ment that you probably can't stroll in to Canadian tire and pick up a few different boxes.

Great caliber though!
