This thread has gotten a lot more response than I expected and I am grateful for all the input. After having coffee with Why Not?, Ted, today, I will certainly be looking into a Husqvarna, but I probably won't make a decision for another month or so as I still want to have a look at the other options everyone here has pointed out. Also, I will be in the the Lower Mainland/East Kootenays of BC for the spring and may find something interesting while I am down south.

Or maybe I need a 300 win mag?!

Take your time. Handle as many different makes and models as you can. You will learn what appeals to you and then you can work from there. Most modern rifles are reliable and accurate enough. Figure out what you like and what feels good to you, then decide. Have fun.

Sometime more difficult to borrow than pistols though

^^^ Those are a couple of beauties, I,d hate to risk taking them in the bush for risk of marking them up. Where I hunt its quite hilly and hard walking, Its easy to fall once or twice a day.

Makes one a bit more careful. On hunts my old Sako AV has been for many years and will continue to be exposed to the elements. Still in excellent condition.
