The book calls minimum OAL is 3.3, however any ammo purchased from retail market OAL measured under 3.2...when i reload with hornady sst, it has interlock ring, if i seat the bullet at the interlock ring, OAL only measure at 3.25...not sure if i should seat the bullet at the interlock ring..any idea? Thanks in advance...

I load 165gr sst's in my ought 6 as well and seat .020" off the lands. My col is 2.661" from the ogive. I think its 3.285" to the bullet tip on most of them. Consider the seating depth a guide in the books. They list what swami says the col should be. Seat just off the lands and load em up. My go to load with those bullets is 57gr of h4350/imr4350. Shoots awesome with that combo.

I am loading it with 45gr IMR3031. My only concern is that seating too deep will increase pressure significantly.

regards to fitting the chamber throat, it is hard for me to determine if it fits the chamber perfectly. any particular method you guys are using?

Get yourself on overall length gauge and measure your chamber and load to it.

Exactly. They are pretty cheap and give you an exact measurement with no guessing if its right like other methods. I didn't have the right stuff to do that with my 22-250 so I did it the way of putting a bullet into the case and closing the bolt on it and when I measured with the col gauge it the bullet was .001" off the lands but the bullet in the case method it measures .020" off the lands. I am guessing the bullet got stud in the lands and then pulled out when I removed the case. Save yourself trouble and get a oal gauge and a bullet comparator because measuring off the bullt tip isn't accurate at all. I measured some with the oal gauge and they are all 2.661 - 2.663" and from the bullet tips they are 3.280 - 3.290"

I'm not sure if you guys are trying to create a problem that doesn't exist, or are you trying to reinvent the wheel?
Seating depth in a sporting rifle is of very minor importance.
The original Weatherby rifles were "free bored," to give the bullet about a half inch to travel before it hit the lands, in an attempt to lower the recoil a bit. I have not heard many complaints about those rifles, including their inherent accuracy.
And I think, but am not sure, that original hand loading data for these rifles was also used for custom Weatherby calibre rifles, which were built with normal clearance for the bullet to go before it hit the lands.

It's an easy variable to control H4831 so why not do it? In many rifles it likely doesn't have much impact on hunting accuracy but in others it certainly can. You may as well shoot factory ammo if you aren't controlling all the variables you can.

"...measure at 3.25..." You can ignore a crimp ring altogether. However, 3.25" will do. It's the max OAL you need to think about.
