I just recieved a 223 Remmie 700 SPS in Matte blue with synthetic from SIR for a Total of $550ish shipped and tax included.
They offer them in Most calibres including the 06:cool:
Try and find an Old Used 700 for that....;)
The stainless SPS adds a 100 bucks if you'd rather go that route.

Good deal...........

If you can stretch your budget a tad past $700, new Ruger 77 mark 2s are $699 at Wholesale and I think Russels. I just bought one and they're a lot of gun for the money IMO..

Ok thanks all. I currenlty have the Remmy 710 in .270win, im just looking at my upgrade options.

I think I am going to look at the stevens and savage.

I like the stevens model 200, but what is a "internal box magazine"?

It means the magazine is blind. There is no floor plate to drop if you need to unload.

Personally I don't find this an issue on my stevens as it is a vramint gun but it becomes a PITA when you need to load and unload multiple times. I.E. when entering and exiting a vehicle (if you follow the rules, I've noticed some don't).

I like my Stevens and would recomend it as a good accurate rifle for under $400 bucks. BUT for $500 you can have the 700 sps with a hinged floorplate or for $530 you can have the same model with a detachable magazine. A better rifle for only a little more.

How does the Savage model 111FHNS sound?

I dont like the "hidden" magazine's, because if something goes wrong you cant unload. So the 111FHNS has the hinged floor plate.

I got a Browning A-bolt in 30/06 and it's done good by me would never sell or part with it. And it's in your price range, too

Boer_seun what A-Bolt did you get.

Dad said the hey will include the ruger M77 MkII and the Tikka T3 in the price range aswell.

You want a real upgrade from your 710, so I would skip right past the Stevens and Savages and look at the other ones..
:)

I have aStevens 30-06 as my truck gun, and it works well for that. It's very accurate, but I am nto a fan of a blind magazine on a hunting rifle, either.

I prefer hinged floorplate over all else.:)

You should handle and work the bolt on a Tikka T-3 before you spend your money on any of those other rifles. $599.00 or less for real quality and guaranteed accuracy!

Agreed. They are amazing rifles right out of the box.

Ok, thanks all for your help. I have picked my top 3 30-06 rifles. And hopefully someone will by my 710 for cheap plinking or a starting out hunting rifle.

I might be interested, always wanted a 270 but never got around to getting my hands on one :p how much would you want for it?

Remington 710 would make it a good tomatoe stake, too. :D

I will second the Tikka motion. Hell of a gun. The quality is impecable. If you don't want to spend that much, the next step down(so to speak) in quality would be the Savage package which is also a very good quality rifle, quite accurate out of the box and is backed by a reputable name.

I got a Savage 30.06, with a mounted Simmons scope and sling, for $490 after taxes.

Both the Tikka and the Savage come with removable 5 round magazines, which makes it a breeze to load and unload every few minutes (if you need to).

When I sell the 710, I think I am going to go for the Ruger M77 MkII in 30-06. We own two rugers and they are really reliable.
