Hi,

What's your favorite bullet and powder for hunting (moose and deer) with 30-06?

I use accubong 180 gr in my tikka t3 lite ss, but I want test a other load for the hunting.

thanks

watch them accu bongs whilst reloading, not good for ya health nor judgement ;)

haha, on a serious note, hard to beat Accubonds, I love em! proberly cheaper to load 180gr corelokts or something similar, Hornady if moose an deer on the agenda!

WL

I ran a 168gr ttsx with IMR 4064 in the exact same gun. I can't remember the charge off hand but it grouped really well (1/2'' - 3/4'') consistently and dropped deer in their tracks.

Its going to be hard to beat what you already have, as far as on game performance goes. If its about saving money, the plain old Hornady Interlock works well.

I've used the 30-06s on a few culls with different bullets on several hundred animals. On this last one it was depressing when I ran out of 180 Woodleighs and had to go back to using 168 TSXs.

thanks,

I like accubond, but I shoot a deer 2 year ago, and the bullet dont make a good job (bad expension, but I dont know why..), but for the moose, it's perfect (I shoot 4 moose in my life with the accubond and the bullet make a good job) !!

I have a good load with the imr 4895 and amax 178 gr for the target, but I dont know if a good bullet for the hunting...

I have been using the 165 or the 180 Partitions out of my 30-06 Rifles for decades.

Never had any animal complain it was inadequate, since they all seemed to die quickly. :)

Usually chase the 165 with one of the 4350's or H414/W760. The 180's pretty well exclusively Norma MRP/RP-5. [Have one good IMR 4831 Load as well]

Regards, Dave.

I've switched to RL-17 and either 180 grain Winchester PP's, or 210 grain Berger VLD's. A stiff load of powder and I can get 3300 ft/lbs and under 1" accuracy. The Berger's have moderate penetration but an unreal huge wound channel. The Winchester PP's I am always impressed with for deep penetration and moderate wound channels. Very underrated bulllet, and very modestly priced.

Partitions are my go to for hunting, followed by accubonds, then well, whatever, maybe GameKings....

For big game that is.
