30-284 loading info

Don't no if this helps but my 25th edition of Hodgdon's Data Manual lumps 30-284 in with the 30/06. They have loads with their own powder and IMR and Winchester in bullet weights from 110 to 250. The heading on the top of each page is ".30/06 & .30/.284".

So use 30/06 data as a near guideline.

I have found somewhere between 54 to 56grs of IMR 4350 witha 180 gr. always pretty good in the 30/06 - may be good in 30/284 too if you can fit the powder in.

I had one in a rechembered 601.

With a 2.800 OAL restriction, I found you cannot use full 30-06 data with bullets heavier than 165's since the bulet starts to take up case capacity.

I found RL19 and the 4350's to give good results. 2900 with 165's were possible with a 22" barrel

The 30-284 is effectively a 7.5x55 Swiss, and shares case capacity and bore size with the 30/06. You can use either's load data, but as pointed out you might run into lack of space for powder for heavier bullets with the slower powders with the 30/06 data (one of the disadvantages of shorter and fatter cartridges) .
