I checked some of the previous posts and could not find much. My Lyman manal is on the way (maybe a week or so - on order) and looking to load up some loads for my new 30-30.

I have a bunch of 165 gr hard (25 Brinell) non-GC cast bullets. I have plenty of Unique and am trying to find a good load for plinking and sillhouette.

Have any of you used that combination before?

Thanks

I've shot 165gr cast loaded with 8gr and 10gr Unique.
Chronograph 5-shot
8 gr Unique: MV 1180 fps SDev 16,
10 gr : MV 1380 fps, SDev 9

Recoil and report are light, no leading to speak of.

(My personal preference is Trail Boss, but Unique is fine)

Some data from the Lyman #3 Cast bullet manual and Lyman #49

170 gr. cast bullets, data will work fine with 165 gr. bullets.

Red Dot 6.5 grs. 1159 fps. 8.5 grs. 1348 fps.

Unique 7.0 grs. 1240 fps. 10.6 grs. 1555 fps.

SR-4756 7.0 grs. 1102 fps. 10.5 grs. 1423 fps.

W231 6.0 grs. 1175 fps. 8.0 grs. 1275 fps.

TiteGroup 4.5 grs. 960 fps. 6.5 grs. 1383 fps.

2400 7.0 grs. 1005 fps. 11.0 grs. 1377 fps.

Bullseye 5.0 grs. 990 fps. 7.4 grs. 1263 fps.

RX7 20.0 grs. 1632 fps. 28.6 grs. 2165 fps.

I use the Lee 170 gr. gas check RNFP. For plinker/small game loads I like 7 to 8 grs. of Alliant Red Dot,bullets are tumble lubed in Lee Alox and the gas check is left off. For hunting loads I cast the bullet form 30:1 Lead/Tin alloy apply the gas check with a Lee .311 push through sizer and ranch dip or pan lube the bullets. I load those on top of 29.0 grs. of H335 which pretty much gets me to factory jacketed bullet velocity in my long barrel Sav. pump gun.
