.30-30 "Accelerators"

Tried the accelerators in two 30-30's . 6 inch groups at 100 yards . Garbage .

I recall having shot a rather humungous groundhog with one in 30-06, in the early to mid 70's.
Indeed it was a bang flop, but the resultant wound from the 4,000fps 55 grain pill was, well, impressive to say the least. I believe that the term,"from your crotch to your eyeballs" fits quite nice the instant anatomy lesson that resulted!!

I've just loaded 100gr. Speer "Plinkster" bullets for my 30-30. They're accurate, fast(2600fps), and have next to no recoil. And they're round nose so they'll fit in a tube. Try them, you might like them.

I found the recoil was light enough to allow loading and cycling from my tube magged model 94. The accuracy was horrible. But when a hit did connect the result was spectacular. NOTE: I do not endorse using these loads in a tube repeater. I was lucky and I would not try it again.

I've read a fair bit about them and lots of guys who tried them were reporting terrible accuracy, often 8" groups or larger at 100 yards.

I remember seeing these in the '80's and some oldtimers saying that they should not be selling such as this as it could be used by " assasins" as they would not leave rifeling marks on the bullet and would be " untraceable"

I would think an assasin would want better than an 8'' grouping!

They do have a very flat trajectery, but that is it. I have about 5 or 6 boxes of each cal. Stocked up when I found out they stopped making them. I like my .22 Hornet much better for the purpose intended. You can't go wrong with the hornet! No kick, lots of bang, cheap as $h!t to reload and what an impact when it hits!

I am amazed these aren't illegal. If they were to be used in a murder it'd be very hard to prove the firearm used at you wouldn't have the usual marks on the bullet...

If I had them I would be compelled to murder people. Heaven forbid they would sell unrifled shotguns. There would be an assassin on every street corner. Assassinating!

:jerkit: I never said anyone or anything about being compelled to kill someone. nice over reaction. please take off the sensitive pants and reread what I posted.

The government makes everything they can illegal in Canada, but a rifle round that can be fired without marking the bullet (even less then a slug out of a shotgun would get) is legal. To me that is strange and I am amazed the GVMNT hasn't banned em.

I was reading, on this site, not long ago. that there is a data base where they wanted to catalog all bullets markings. Then someone showed how to change the markings from a barrel with a cleaning swab, rubbing compound, and about 2 minutes of time. That being said, I agree with you about the govt. "A.Rock heads" banning anything with potential illegal applications. I'm still waiting for the day we have to register our butter knives.

I played with "Accelerators" a few years ago. I bought the Sabots and 22 cal bullets and loaded my own. I thought of seeing how fast I could push a 45 gr bullet in a 300 Win Mag intrigued me, but I also witnessed how inaccurate they were.

Sabotted bullets are quite accurate in muzzleloaders and shotguns, so I'm thinking that the very light bullets (in comparison to the sabot weight), combined with extremely high MV (4000 fps+ as opposed to 2000 fps max) conspired against them.

Just a thought, has anyone ever tried making a paper patch round up for a modern smokeless powder rifle? As in rifled barrel not a blackpowder.
