I've got a bunch of 165 grain Hornady Interbonds and a new to me Savage 24V. Since this rifle loads single shot, I'm wondering if the Interbonds will perform adequatley at sedate velocities (2100fps or so)?

Any opinions (like you guys don't have those...)?

Thanks, Troutseeker

There's an easy way to find out. Fill up about five, gallon-size, plastic milk jugs and go to the range. Line them up touching one another and take a poke at them.

My bet is that it will open and penetrate at least three of the jugs!

Let us know.

well you should be able to get 2100 fps out the 30-30 without much trouble, and at 150 yards that will hit with around 1850 fps, which is about as slow as I'd push that bullet and expect consistent expansion. FWIW the 308 or 30-06 would achieve that impact velocity at around 500 yards. Energy at that velocity will be almost 1300 ft-lbs, plenty for any deer

if I had a 30-30 that could handle spitzers I would most likely try some 150 grain Ballistic Tips first

Actually, according to Hornady, the Interbonds open up *faster* than the SST's (or nos BT's) - because during the bonding process, the copper jacket is annealed (softened) somewhat.

Most of the really tough premium bullets (TSX, Partition, A-Frame, Scirocco, etc) need about 1800fps to get decent expansion; I'm not sure about the IB's.
