30-30 Cast Bullets

So, I got my hands on some 165 grain hard cast bullets and am looking for load ideas. I have researched leverevolution with these bullets and recommended loads start at 34 grains and go to as high as 36.5 grains and are supposed to be a very effective hunting round. I would like some ideas for plinking loads, good to 50 or 100 yards. I have a lot of HP38, HS-6, 700X Bullseye, power pistol and green dot.
Any suggestions?

app velocity top end 1500 fps +-


2400 will go a bit faster 1800 +-


older Imr 4227 (made in canada ) will go even faster

5744 will go even faster
 
Hi, I'm not sure if we are allowed to post loads. I've search in the Forum Rules and did not find anything proscribing it. But as usual, use at your own risk and do your research first.

In my Lyman cast bullet 3rd Edition, for a cast 169gr in #2 alloy, I have these loads with the powders you listed above:

700x start at 6.0gr for 1101 fps at 26400 CUP to max 7.5gr for 1253 fps at 34000 CUP
green dot start at 7.0gr for 1126 fps at 23400 CUP to max 9.0gr for 1348 fps at 33500 CUP
 
700X under a LEE cast 150 gr. Dig around and you will find a good load using 700X. I'm away from my reloads so I won't venture a specified amount. Good old Unique is another great plinking powder.
 
Nope, I don't have those powders. I use 17gr of H4198 under a 150gr bullet for a light load around 1700 fps, or 9gr Trailboss for 1200 fps or 8gr Unique for around 1400fps. The Unique load is the most precise in my gun. But all those loads do fairly well at 50m and 100m
 
For plinking loads, you can't go wrong with Trail boss powder for any rifle caliber. 70 to 100% of the case capacity, it's simple and safe. I use it for 30/06 6.5x55, 303, 30/30 with cast and jacketed bullets.
 
I assume everyone knows that only flat nose bullets (not spire point) should be used in centerfire rifles with a tubular magazine.

And something to keep track of if you load spire point 3030 for use in single shots.

As a precaution, I have a paper notice of "single shot only" in my caseguards with spire points.

All my cast bullets are flat nose so no issue with them.

None of the powders you have. There is load data 630, SR-4759 RX7, H4895, 748.

10 grains of Unique works using cast bullets in my 30-30, .303 Brit, .308, and 30-06. It is a go to load for most who want a gallery load. I have topped cases off with rice and cream of wheat. Rice gives you a nice clean barrel. The Lyman 311041 bullet cast from WW and water quenched was my favourite bullet. Very accurate out to 100 yards which is all I tested using WC135 a powder I got from Higginsons.

Here is a little side note...and some of you may laugh at me...I started to prep my cases and when I first got in to reloading metallic, I managed to score a bunch of Lee case lube. For everything(including 270) except 30-30, it seemed to work fine. I have had several stuck cases in my rcbs fl resizing die and I was getting ticked off spending more time pounding out a ruined 30-30 case than I was de-priming and re-sizing. I was to the point of buying a new resizing die or new lube when I decided to raid my work bench. green Rust Check is the best resizing lube ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Zero stuck cases! I give the case a wipe with a lightly sprayed shop towel and they go in and out of the resizer like a wet....ya' know. VERY happy and getting ready to prime.
