I really like my father's 30-30 that I inherited, and it will never leave my gun cabinet. However my older eyes need optical help these days, under most hunting weather/lighting conditions.
I'm thinking the lever rifle in 356 with a compact scope (yeah I know, blasphemy) may be in order for next fall or even this spring.

Sorry levergun purists, but aging is one icy hearted b@tch!

I was given one.

I don't understand the leverevolution fad either. Its ballistics are out of a 24" barrel, and last time I checked, the majority of .30-30's have 20" spouts. Good ole 170 grain anythings will do the job on just about anything.

a win 64A with a lyman reciever sight. it took me a long time to find a good one.

in a moment of madness i had it listed here on CGN , but was quite pleased when no one wanted it.

to me the 64 is the epitome of a forest deer rifle. mine's good for 1 1/2" with 170 grain factory "what ever" from the bench.

levers are cool.

I load Hornady 170gr FN Interlocks on top of 28.5 grs IMR3031 = M.O.D. @125yds

I've carried a 30-30 a couple times but never connected on anything with them...have a Marlin 36, made in '47..24" barrel and short mag. My oldest son has a 336 Marlin in 30-30 that he shoots quite well with the factory sights..we plan to take them out this fall.

Yes, and I fondle it with some regularity:) I don't hunt deer, but I use it when we slaughter buffalo here on the farm. Mostly just an inefficient and really enjoyable paper shredder. I thought everybody had one, but I see it's only about half the gun-toting public who are so fortunate! Leverboy has voted.

My first centrefire rifle was a Marlin 336 in 30-30. It will likely never leave the family. Other guns come and go, that one is something special. Aside from how it handles and the caliber, there is something great about a 'user' gun. Not loosing sleep if it gets another scratch only adds to my comfort and enjoyment.
Happy shooting.

I have 7 Winny 30-30s and they range from 1906 rifles to a 1971 carbine. All have seen at least one hunt and success in them all. I reload for all mine and see no reason to buy a store bought "superior to some" ammo.

I have sold both my WIn 1894 30-30carbine(1920vintage) and just recently my Marlin model 36 sporting carbine to a nice young fellow who will actually hunt with it!

I have to dream guns when it comes to 30-30's first one would be a Remingtom model 788 in 30-30 and my dream 30-30 would be a WInchester model 54 or a rare model 70!

I would even just take a donor action in the model 54 or 70 and build it back to original specs!

With the advent of Hornady pointed bullets I see alot more guys using the old levers for deer up here in T-Bay! My friends gunshop can't keep this Hornady Lever revolution ammo on the shelf most of the time!Dale Z!

Have a later model 336 and don't shoot it too often, but when I take it to the range with new shooters they all seem to head to the lever! :)
As it's a brush gun I don't think the slightly limited range of 100 yards is a big deal, and it's just so handy.
I think I may end up putting a peep on it, and stripping the orange varnish off, as I can see it's got some real nice wood underneath.
