30-30 for Moose?

chances are that the guy packing a 30/30 is going to take that extra second or two to pick his shot-and put the moose down.I don't care HOW powerful a rifle a guy has-if doesn't pick his shot ,he risks wounding the animal or worse not recovering it.A moose hit in the leg or has its jaw shot off may not be recovered no matter what caliber a rifle was used.I like the swedes-because I can shoot them without flinching.

So I take it the .270 win would be a decent choice for moose under 200 yds. I just sold my .308 because I needed a .44 mag lever but now I have only a .270.for a longer range rifle. Thinking about joining a moose hunt this year.

My fathers best friend has used a .270 for moose every year for as long as I can remember. (I'm 44 btw)
He has never had any problems filling his tag. ( Well, none that had anything to do with his rifle anyways!)
Your .270 will do just fine.

I have a SKS, that shoots 7.62x39. When I go deer hunting it is a very common rifle, same as a Ruger mini-30 (which shoots the same size bullets) and a 30-30 lever. All of those rifle are around the same power, and I would for sure go hunting with any one of those for Moose, if my main Moose rifle was acting up. I always bring along my SKS for a backup rifle if someone in the group needs it. I would'nt take a 200 yard shot on a Moose in wide open clearing, but at 100 or so, go for it. A couple quick pops, and there would be fresh Moose on the BBQ.
If you have the means though, a .308 or even better a 30-06 or .300mag would be much more better suited for hunting moose. I would'nt go any smaller than a .308 though if you were going out to buy a Moose rifle for that purpose.
