.30-30 Hornady Leverevolution

My Ballard rifled '53 vintage 336 is very accurate with the Hornady rounds. My 94 Winchester shot very poorly with them. I shot a smallish buck 2 years ago at about 45 yards. It was a middle rib shot/hit and it took him right off his feet. Died in his tracks. There was complete penetration so I did not recover the bullet. The wound channel was very wide. Much more tissue damage than the standard .30WCF loads. Having said that both will reliably kill deer.

Anyone handload the 160gr FTX in the 30/30 yet?
I just did and the best I could get out of it was 2000 fps with 29 grs of H4895. This is the top load on Hornady's web site.
Anyone try IMR 3031 yet?
The factory stuff got 2259 fps, I know they have a special powder but you should be able to get 2150 fps as I get that with Speer 170 grs bullets out of my 20" Marlin.
If not I will go back to shooting the Speers.

This stuff flies...had to move the elevator down I was shooting right over top the target and even with the iron sights the groups were impressive. It does have maybe 15% more recoil, no big deal.
