30/30 Lever Action Fans

Never loaded for a 30-30, but read about that trick sometime ago. What is is O.A.L. of a spitzer 30-30 cartridge? With one in the tube, will it properly feed through the rifle?

I'm not sure about the heavier bullets, but I have range tested a few 150 grain spitzers that someone else made just fine through my post 64 Win 30/30.

Depends on the rifle, and it depends on the reloading process/bullet seating.
I'm sure others who have done more of this will chime in with their 30/30 tricks.

I'd like to try the new leverevolution(?) ammo for the 30-30 but I can't find any. If the ST ammo people mentioned is at my crappy tire I'll give them a try this year.

I just saw on another thread here about the idea of using only two spitzer nosed rounds in a lever gun. OK, it's my newbieness but yeah, if two is enough then why bother with the LeveRevolution bullets and the extra cost. What a sweet idea for those special times.

I suppose if the LeveRevolution rounds shoot the same it could be a three round load. One spitzer, one LR and another spitzer. Chamber the first and don't worry about a magazine accident since the soft tip won't set off the third load? Or is that getting too complicated for hunting? Sure wouldn't want to make a mistake.

I'm just getting into reloading and want to try some steel silhouette shooting. Locally this is done out to around 300 yards. If I can load up some flatter shooting boat tail spitzer rounds to launch from my Marlin 336 I think that would be fun to use for this and turn a couple of heads. Of course if I'm not up to the task of shooting it effectively they'll all be inwardly laughing at me. But that's part of the fun....:D

I own a Marlin 336C in 30-30 and found that a 170gr roundnose groups almost twice as good for me at 50 and 100yrds than Leverevolution. I dropped a nice 6 pointer this past November with 170gr Remington Core Lokt ammo at 80yrds. Hit him just behing the front shoulder, he went about 20yrds and dropped stone dead. I'll stick with a good 170gr thanks you very much!!!

Just got my first pre 64 Win 94 30/30 (1959) not to long ago. What a solid little carbine, just love it. Got some Hornady LeveRevolution for the long shots. All I can say is wow.
