I'm going to start reloading 30-30, which I've not done before. Taking a look at Berry's 150 grain flat nose - but they say not to exceed 1700 fps. I have a surplus of CCI magnum primers that I would like to use, and I'm interested in giving the leverevolution powder a try (loading for a '94 Win).

Anyone have practical load data for these components? I also need to obtain a quantity of brass, so if you have a pet load for these components with a specific brass, I'm open to suggestion.

Who's got unique? I'm hoping to do my shopping with Budget, good experiences in the past, but it doesn't look like Henry carries it.

I do have lots of 4895, and I see in the thread you linked that about 25gr of that will work with berry's.

I'm looking at thier 'bullet barn" bullet catalogue - they have 165 grain flat nose 30 cal (.309) that look interesting - anyone ever try them? $34/200 rounds sounds great...

Lots of 30-30 loads out there. Unique is one, but I have also used Bullseye with great success with the little Lee soupcan boolit. These are all reduced loads for fun's sake, although I hear people hunt small game with these loads (squirrel, grouse etc). For full bore hunting, my most accurate load was with Ramshot Tac paired with the Hornady 160 Gr FTX bullet. I believe this will easily take down a moose if the shot is placed well.

I was going to try those sometime too. I use the 38 Cal 130 grain in my revolver and they work good so I'm sure the 30 Cal would be good too as long as you don't push them too fast.

I have used the Bullet barn 165 gr with a load of W231, fun plinking load. The bullets are good, no problems (priced right too). Check out the thread that Blackwater posted as there is some good suggestions there.

I recently picked up a mold for an 80 grain or so 32 cal pistol bullet with the hope of using it for a small game cartridge for my 30-30. I think I can make them for near the same cost as a 22 lr. If I ever get the time.

"...they say not to exceed 1700 fps..." That's because plated bullets use cast bullet data. Lots of that in the assorted manuals.
You don't need magnum primers for any .30-30 load, but nothing horrible will happen if you use 'em.

Most plated bullets can't even be driven that fast but Berry's 30-30 bullets are plated pretty thick. I shot one into a clay bank and some came off when it hit a stone, I'll see if I can dig up a pic later.

With 11 grains of unique it penetrated 13" of damp clay and barely deformed except where it hit something hard. I was very impressed.

TargetAquired, here are my results & this load is good @ 100m now around 2.5in group with my Win 94 lever RCMP.
21-22 grs H335, light to moderate crimp (no crimp on Berry's bullets)
Ok I have some preliminary results @ 25yds w/ iron sights: H335- 21.5 grs @ 1611fps was best group approx. 1.5", next was Alliant 2400- 16grs @ 1780 fps 1.5-1.75" , bringing up the rear was TrailBoss- 8.8 grs @ 1245fps 1.75-2.0"( way to light, much like .22LR!) I have to deal with the iron sights before I can proceed any further. Thank You to all who helped! I appreciate it! SgtRock

I'm going to give some of the Berry's brews a try that have been mentioned, and i am intrigued by the plinking rounds unsing the pinch of unique. But, I also want to give those Bullet Barn projectiles a try and will try and find some matching data for them and do some testing. Hoping for good results on those - if they shoot well, a very inexpensive but fun load can be developed.

Varmint load: 110 grain copper jacketed bullet (designed for the M1 Carbine and single loaded directly into the chamber and not through the magazine) 27.2 grains of IMR 4198, Winchester LR primer. Velocity about 2650 fps. Bullet impact about 1 1/2inches higher at 100 yards. Small three shot group from the bench with Winchester M94 and peep sights. Very light recoil.
