30/30 Marlin, Accuracy Expectation

I went out today to make sure the marlin was on her target, Deer Season opens 2 weeks and there are 3 behind my house and if I can do it, all 3 will be hanging in my garage

At 100 meteres I was doing 5 shot groups that could usually be covered by a loonie. At 200 meters I was making groups that could be covered with a lid off a regular size can of coffee. (about 5 inches)

All shots were off the hood of the truck or off hand.

170 grain powershok, and what seemd to be about a 5 inch drop at 200 meteres.

Try the Lever-revolution stuff.. A friend has a Marlin 336sc and the shots are about 1-1.5 inch high at 100yd and dead nuts at 200yd... Nice !!

My 30AS scoped will put 2 shots an inch apart from each other. Open sighted, if I can get a group I can cover with my hand, I'm happy with that.

I'd be happy with 5 shots that could be covered by a loonie at 100 yards with a scoped rifle from a bench with sandbags. That's less than 1" grouping.

I've only shot my 30/30 Marlin at 50m (just too busy), all three shots were just touching.

Okay, that's excellent accuracy. I wouldn't try another load. Just shoot the deer already!

All the groups weren't that tight, but the majority were.
Offhand is where they opened up. 200 yrds I was hitting the 12 x 12 target off hand, but there was no precusion at all, but still, hitting a 12 x 12 target at 200 metres off hand, I was pleased. Off the truck, I got them into a group that were covered by the coffee lid.

At 100 yrds off hand I was making about 4 inch groups.

I'm still getting used to a new scope I put on though, but for now, it seems all is well. I will get the leverevolutions next week and have one last day shooting before the opener.

I used Leverevolutions 2 years ago, and they were simply amazing. Around here though, they are not always easy to come by.

I've got the same abomination combo that pharaoh has (scoped 30AS), and it shoots very well at 100 m. I have shot 1 inch groups , but its basically a consistent 1.5-1.75 inch grouper.

Its over 20 years old, and has less than 400 rounds down the pipe.
