.30-.30 or 35 REM

Whichever I grabbed on the way out the door. Either way, that grouse will be dead, dead, dead.
I have a real soft spot for the .30 WCF and great curiosity about the .35 Remington (I've fired one but have yet to own one), but for practical use under 100 yards the difference is about nil.

.35 remington

I've been using a Marlin 336 SC ( sport carbine ) half mag ., in .35 remington for 34 years now . Taken a few deer with it ( ranges of 50 to 100 yards ) no problem at all , all one shot kills , I wouldn't have second thoughts about using it for black bear , or moose , but at ranges no farther than 150 yards . my personal handload is 34.5 grains of IMR 3031 , CCI 200 primer , 200 grain hornady (round nose ) soft point , it's got a bit more punch than 30-30 ....LOL....Joe

strange thing is-somehow we've come to believe that we absolutely HAVE to have a rifle capable of 400 yard shots-when the average shot at a deer is about 1/10 of that distance....[yes,I know alpine and clearcut distances are likely greater-but I question just how many guys can even come close to their rifles capability-even a 30/30...an old guy I knew used an open sighted 25-35-with great efficiency]

I agree with you ratherbefishin, my apples are 60 yds away from my tree stand. 35 Rem would be perfect with a red dot scope.

Joe.l ..have you chrony your rounds?
