30-30 reloads

I just got back from the range and I had a chance to try out some reloads in my Stevens 325 in 30-30. I tried some loads with 160gr lead bullts over 2400, not bad but could be better, tried some 155 Palma SMK over Varget , it shoot pretty good also but the surprise was with 35gr of H 414 with a 178gr A-Max, it shot about 1/2" for 4 shots and a flyer I think I'm on the right track...
Of course these loads and bullets are shot in a "BOLT ACTION" rifle!!! not to be tried in a lever action
I installed a Lyman globe front and rear peep sight on the rifle ...it helps

The 30-30 is an accurate round, if it's in an accurate rifle.
Don't be afraid to try H4895 at jacketted levels under a gas checked lead bullet.
You'll likely get the best accuracy between 1900 and 2000fps.

Both Chappy and I own Marlin 336's and get similar results with 170gn Round nose over 36 gn of Win 748 and WLP primers. Odd ball load but works well for both of us.

My wife has the same rifle with a scope mounted. I have been loading Remington 125g PSP's and H335, at a velosity of 2650 fps. It shoots into 1" at 100 yards. We also have a Savage 340 with a peep sight, and shoot Winchester 150g PSP's and H335 at a velosity of 2450. It shoots as accurate as I can with no scope.
