My first recovered slug of sorts too.
I've been reading of some folks who use shoulder shots. Thought I'd try one for a change. I typically shoot for a behind the shoulder heart lung hit.
I'll be returning to my habit thanks.
The shot, a 170 Hornady Interlock, broke the shoulder, took an inch and a half sized chunk of rib out, and cracked the off side shoulder.
The deer was so fat that the fat plugged the entrance hole, and as such, it didn't leave a blood trail for the first twenty yards or so, until it's lungs filled with blood and it came out the nose as can be seen in the pic.
It dropped after forty yards. I can't remember ever having to trail a good hit that far with a standard heart lung shot, and a good exit wound.
When I get what's left of the bullet cleaned up, I'll weigh it, take pics, and examine.
The deer was a mess, on side shoulder was hamburger.
The pic shows the off side shoulder.
129 lbs on the scale at the buck and doe, earned me $25.
