30 30 to 308 conversion

It will not handle the pressures. That is why Winchester came out with a beefed up version of the 94 in a rimmed 308 named the .307 Winchester.

Two problems - the .308 is a much higher pressure cartridge, which likely exceeds the design strength of the 94, and the max overall length of the .308 is about a quarter of an inch longer, meaning it would be highly unlikely any useful handload would cycle. On top of the challenges of converting from a rimmed bolt face and extractor to a recessed rimmed cartridge. And, you would still be stuck with blunt bullets, since pointy bullet noses can, and very occasionally do, cause chain fire in tube magazines.

There are good .308 lever guns in .308, which might be a much simpler way to go, although without the technical fun of solving all of the above problems!

As guntech suggested, the 94 variant in .307 would be the way to go. Reinforced action, drilled & tapped for scope mounting, with angle ejection.
Reload ammunition using standard .308 dies with the .307 shell holder. You will probably be handloading. The ammunition isn't orphaned, but you won't see it everywhere.
Bullets must be appropriate for the tubular magazine.
A friend uses one of these rifles, and quite likes it.

If you want to increase the power of your .30-30 a bit, an Ackley Improved version would be an option.

In the end, to have a lever 308 it would be better , cheaper and easier to find a savage 99 in 308. They are proven over time to be reliable good shooters.
