25 years ago I reloaded cast ,,,my results were disappointing,...maybe I will have to revisit it and see where I went wrong.
....
I can not know what was the issue, but cast bullet and 30/30 should sort of be like "peanut butter and jam" - almost made for each other? Locally, I notice many guys have trouble to clean their lever action 30/30 bores - is a thing that I read years ago - never to use cast lead bullets in a bore with copper jacket fouling or vice versa - so is always a commotion for me to use a true copper removing cleaner first, to get the bore shiny clean, before firing lead bullets. I can not tell you why that is - I have never knowingly been firing cast bullets through a copper fouled bore for several decades - just was burned in my mind "don't do that" - so I don't. Might have been your issue??
Maybe the alloy that you used was too soft? Just another guess. Or you sized them much too small for your rifle's throat? I cast most all my lead bullets using wheel weights - are definitely harder than pure lead. I finally was able to get a stash of Speer 110 grain "Varmint" bullets - so about 3/4 jacketed with big exposed lead hollow point on front - Speer # 1835 - so is my plan for plinking and practice bullets for my Win 94 in 30/30. I am using Sierra 170 grain Flat Nose - Sierra #2010 - for "real".
