Well, considering neither Browning nor Uberti make an 1892 clone, I doubt it. Only makers right now are Rossi (Brazil) and Armi Sport (Italy). Neither makes a WSM that I know of and neither is Winchester affiliated, that I know of. I also doubt it will be Armi Sport as their clones are $1000+ guns and they would have a tough time going into a market niche previously occupied by the .30-30 Win 94's that routinely sold below $500. Sure, some guys would buy them (ie, the guys that think 2K is a good price for an entry level Sako) - but MANY people would not be in that price point. If Rossi makes them, expect the fit and finish to be below expectations.

Personally though, I think it's all internet rumour.
 
Lemme get this straight....a slick little thumper of a '92 probably made by Miroku? I would buy one for sure, and I'm generally a real traditionalist. I'd like the idea even more if the rifle it had no tang or crossbolt extra safety.
But it does sound like it needs to be a '94 based rifle or a newly designed rifle loosely based on the '92. Didn't we all expect this though? There is still money to be made in the traditional levergun market; Herstal isn't going to just ignore that.

Browning (Miruko) did a run of Model 65s and 53s in the late 1980's. These rifles use a model 92 type action, so the tooling does exist somewhere.
That said, I still think it is BS, and would likely be a commercial flop.
I wish they would make another run of 1885s in 30-30 though.

Browning did make a '92 "Clone" - c.'78-86, the Model B-92 Carbine in .357 & 44 Rem Mag., as well as the aforesaid Model 53 in .32-20.and 65 in .218 Bee.

I can see Browning undertaking such with Winchester (Ammo, Olin Corp. ) involved - U.S. Repaeating Arms ( Winchester guns ) not so sure as they just pulled the plug on all the lever guns out of Connecticut.

Browning makes a .30 cal Short Mag... it is called the 300WSM and you can get it in a BLR.
This whole 30-30 short mag joke has gone on long enough.
Come on people... give your collective heads a shake and see the forest and the trees.

Ok, yes, I admit it, I made the whole thing up just to bug Bigredd.

Worked too :D

Doing the short mag thing in a traditional lever gun would require a lot of tooling.
Most of them are just not as wide as those FAT bolt guns. :D.
Now if you brought back the 99 Savage, you might work it, the 88 Win is possible, and the Browning, well, it's been done!
 
The only time a .30-30 WSM would make any sense would be in an action where you could use pointed bullets. But then it would be redundant as there are better options already available. Just don't see it happening.

Well, I suppose I dissapointed a lot of levergunners.
But hey, we had fun, and maybe, just maybe, someone out there in Cyber space is listenning.

PS:
Pointed bullets in Tube mags are now possible, through Hornady's new line of leverevolution cartridges.
 
We all know you secretly dream of modern cartridges J/C... it is only the fear of giving up those red rubber cowboy boots from your childhood that keeps you in denial. I'll let you shoot my pointy bullets through the new fangled rifles... I won't tell anyone... honest...:p
 
Can I load 'em backwards so they sorta look like 'real' hunting bullets?

Just for interest sake, I finally came up with a load that my '92 likes.
It no longer shoots 14" groups at 25 feet.
Shoots 4" groups at 100 yards without a rest (or optics).
Not too shabby for a 44-40 in a hundred year old rifle.

Hey, at least I shoot bottle necked cartridges (44-40) :D
