Went to look at a Krag last night. Supposed to be complete and very good to excellant condition. Well it was and it wasn't. Rifle was a 1898 with uncut barrel. The bore and metal were OK (blueing wore but no pits etc) The handguard was missing and the fore stock shortened. It also had 4 screw holes in the wood on the side of the grip. I assume for some type of receiver site installation. It would require new wood and barrel bands to restore. Is it possible to find these parts and where? I'm interested in the gun but not at the original asking price. The owner had got a value for an unaltered version.
I realize that this is not a common rifle in Canada but would look good beside my O3-A3 and Garand.
Thanks for any help
